1469, an event referred to as the 30-year war, devastated the land. To comprehend its influence on our later tale, we must go over its story. So please pay attention as we tell the story of the 30-year war. The day was like any other; the sky was clear, the sun was shining, the breeze was fresh, and the sounds of war echoed through the land. The people of Belroth were unaware, but the nation of Kothmire and Admire were locked in a fight, and it was a brutal one. The army of Admire was notorious for pillaging for their gain, and the nation of Kothmire wasn't so innocent either. The country of high elves was known for violating many laws regarding how they treated their citizens. In addition, the factories they employed to bolster their military power were far from ethical. This fact was the main reason the war began. So how did Belroth find its way into the mix?For starters, Nations fighting on your doorstep isn't suitable for the quality of life, and the number of refugees trying to escape the fighting was causing significant issues. So, to hopefully stop it, they entered the war. So the three nations are stuck in a war, a war detrimental to all in the crossfire. Our main hero in this short tale is Lawrence Cornwall, Captain of the Belroth Army. Accompanying him is his best friend and fellow army captain Xavier O'Mally. They grew up together, enlisted together, and served together. They were the nation's finest, and they would make sure that Belroth came on top.
Lawrence was on his war mount overlooking the army; he smiled pleasantly as he looked over at his best friend, Xavier.
Xavier glanced at Lawrence and cleared his throat, "What seems to have you in a good mood, brother?"
Lawrence looked over the horizon as he spoke to Xavier, "I never dreamed of the day that Belroth would have our army gathered for war."
"No one ever expected this, to be locked in a war with two nations at once," Xavier said to his friend.
Lawrence pulled out two straws from his bag and motioned for Xavier to pick one.
Xavier looked at his friend from his mount, "You want me to pick straws, Lawrence? What is this, elementary?"
"It's an effective way to determine who will fight who, so what will it be, brother?" Lawrence said as he showed the sticks to Xavier.
Xavier would go back and forth before picking the left and longer stick out of the bunch, "Which one is this?"
"Seem you got Admire, a good choice for a gallant officer like yourself. I wish you luck in your endeavors, brother." Lawrence would go up to Xavier on his horse and bring him in for a hug, then a forearm handshake, "I shall hopefully see you soon, make it out of this alive, alright?"
As he nodded, Xavier smiled at Lawrence's words, "I will definitely try; there is so much for me to live for."
The two officers bid each other farewell as they went their separate ways. Lawrence was to deal with the Nation of Kothmire, and Xavier was to deal with the Nation of Admire. The two men tried to stay in touch, but their duties prevented them from seeing each other until a few years later. Lawrence was in his office when he heard footsteps outside of his door.
The Sergeant would be rushing over to the direction of Lawrence's door as he knocked on it aggressively.
Lawrence would walk over to his door, annoyed that it was almost knocked down from the Sergeant's pounding. "What is it, Sergeant?" Lawrence asked, annoyed.
The Sergeant saluted quickly with an envelope, "Sir, I have a grave message regarding Captain O'Malley." The Sergeant responded
Lawrence calmed his tone, sighing, "What is it then?" He asked, waiting at his door.
