CHAPTER ONE: FIRST DAY

The light danced through the classroom windows, glittering, shimmering, captivating, Ashton thought. Her mind wondered as her eyes followed the little rays of light. Radiance, beauty, purity, the things that made them so strong, yet so fragile. Within a moments notice the sun could be gone. Gone, Like her parents...her brother. Gone. No, she didn't want to think of that. Now was not the time. She blinked, her ears flooded with the sound of her own name. She lifted her eyes to the woman at the front of the room. The woman spoke again. She had her hands on her hips, her gray, dull eyes squinted under thick prescription glasses. Her white long hair was braided down her back, like a rough rope. Her floor length dress was to tight on her large body, making her look like one large bulge.

"Ashton?, Did you hear me? I asked you a question."The woman's voice was impatient, rude even.

"Im sorry, Miss. Rush. I didn't catch what you said. If you could run it by me again..please?" Ashton's eyes cut across the room, every eye trained on her.

Miss.Rush cleared her throat, "I asked you, The name of the first person to create astronomical calenders." Her eyes squinted further, turing into  two small slits across her wrinkled face.

Ashton hesitated, she didnt know. A low chuckle erupted from the boy beside her. His eyes were closed and he had the side of his fist pressed to his mouth in an attempt to muffle the sound. Miss.Rush's attention was then on the boy.

"Lucas Peirson!", she snapped her voice becoming an unattractive snarl "Prehaps because you wernt paying attent-", The bell rang cutting the woman off. Ashton was swiftly rising to her feet and moving out the door beafore anyone else in the class could register the bell had rang.

Today was Astons first day at Golden Academy. The school for the gifted and rich. The ironic part? Ashton Johnson was neither.
