Geralt and Ciri had been in Kaer Morhen for a few months now.
Geralt was devastated over learning that Yennefer had died, but, he would never let on.
He was also grieving the loss of a fellow Witcher and friend, Eskel, who was overtaken by a Leshy.
Ciri was training daily, wanting to prove herself, not only to Geralt, but, to the other Witcher's also.
Geralt watched her from afar while occasionally training with her. He wouldn't say, but, he was proud of her.
It wasn't until he had been on a hunt one particular afternoon. The snow on the ground was just beginning to melt away. Geralt was on the hunt for an animal big enough to feed everyone back at Kaer Morhen.
He had overheard a few hunters conversing a few miles from Kaer Morhen.
"They're on the move. Last saw the bastards storming a farm just outside of Cintra. Killed everyone inside."
Geralt's stomach dropped. The only farm just outside of Cintra was the one where you currently resided.
It wasn't like Geralt to go out of his way for a human, but, you had helped him, cared for Ciri. He had to make sure.
So, making quick work of finding an animal, he headed back to Kaer Morhen.
"Took your sweet time, Wolf!"
Vesemir exclaims as Geralt bounds in through the double doors.
He drops a deer at Vesemir's feet before placing a hand onto his shoulder.
"I need to go somewhere. I chant be long, but, I need you to look after Ciri."
Geralt tells the older Witcher, who frowns, but, knows that his ward wouldn't ask such a task of him if it wasn't important. Vesemir nods.
"Of course, Geralt. Be careful."
He says, grabbing the deer off of the ground before turning and walking away.
"Geralt?"
Ciri questions from behind the Witcher. He turns and she is staring at him.
"Listen, Ciri, I have to go somewhere. I'll be back in a few days. You'll be safe here."
Geralt tells the girl, who frowns, a question already bubbling.
"Where?"
She asks and Geralt knows better than to lie to the girl. Instead, he places a hand onto her shoulder.
"Y/N could be in trouble. I need to get to her... Fast."
He says and Ciri notices that by the look in his eyes, he needs to do this alone. So, she nods.
"Okay. Be careful."
She says and he nods, quickly moving to fetch what he needs.
🐺
It takes Geralt a day to get to the farm.
He stops Roach short of the house, shocked to see the many Nilfgaardian soilder bodies littering the ground.
Pursuing forward, he stops Roach at the door and dismounts him.
He cautiously walks forward, ready for anything or anyone.
"Y/N?"
He calls out, stepping into the house, broken glass crunching under his boots.
His stomach drops slightly at the sight of Yurga and Zola on the ground, very dead.
"Y/N?"
He calls out again, making his way through the house.
Suddenly, his Witcher hearing picks up a fast beating heart rate and his head turns to the sound of it.
Y/N's bedroom.
He continues on, noticing that Y/N's bedroom door was open.
He wonders over, cautiously stepping over the threshold.
It doesn't take him long to spot the shivering and cowering body of Y/N, huddled in the corner, beside a dresser.
Geralt steps over the bodies on the ground to get to her.
"Y/N?"
Geralt questions. The woman immediately looks up, her face is tear stained and she looks petrified.
"G-Geralt?"
She whimpers and he hums, kneeling before her.
"It's me. What happened?"
He asks the young woman, who looks terrified to have to tell him the truth.
"W-We were eating lunch, Z-Zola and I. Yurga was out back, f-feeding the animals. Suddenly, he rushes in, s-screaming that Nilfgaard soilders were on the farm. T-They burst inside. T-They killed Yurga. Before I could take Zola's hand, t-they killed her too. I ran. T-they cornered me in here. I got so s-scared that I threw my hands up to protect me. A h-huge burst of electricity shot out of my hands, a bright light a-appeared as well. Before I knew w-what was happening, I had k-killed them all. Oh, God, Geralt! What have I done?"
The woman cries, staring down at her hands in fright.
Geralt frowns, his brain reacting before he could stop it. He pulls Y/N into his arms as she sobs.
Geralt knew that she was different when a Witcher potion healed her, but, to kill fifteen soilders with a burst of electricity is something else.
"We need to get out of here. I have somewhere where you'll be safe."
He tells her. She looks up at him through teary eyes and nods.
"Okay."
With a nod, Geralt stands, reaching his hand out for her. She takes it and he pulls her up.
🐺
Roach stops outside Kaer Morhen and Geralt dismounts, helping Y/N down.
She had his cloak wrapped around her shoulders as they made their way inside.
"Y/N!"
The woman spots Ciri making her way over to her. She pulls the woman into a hug and Y/N smiles.
"Hello, Ciri. It's good to see you."
She says and Ciri smiles, looking over her shoulder at Geralt. He nods to Ciri and she nods back.
"Let's get Y/N something to eat, hmm?"
He says and Ciri nods, pulling the woman along as Vesemir approaches Geralt.
"I can smell the magic on her. What is she?"
The older Witcher asks Geralt, who is at a loss for words.
"I have no idea. All I know is that I got to the farm to find every soilder dead and her unscathed. Vesemir, she said she electrocuted them."
Geralt says and Vesemir frowns, glancing at the woman as Ciri handed her some bread.
"Elder magic? How?"
He asks, but, Geralt doesn't reply, he doesn't know the answer to that question.
But, he will find out.
