My alarm jarred me out of sleep the next morning, breaking through the 7am silence. Reaching over I hit the button to switch it off.
I drag myself out of bed and into the bathroom. My reflection stares back at me. All messy hair and tired eyes. At least it's Friday.
20 minutes later I'm walking out the front door, when mum calls my name.
"lex? have you had breakfast?"
"Yes mum" I lie, before racing out.
I slip my earphones into my ears and press play.
The cold autumn air nips at my fingers and toes, leaving them numb by the time I walk into my form class. I'm early, as usual so I'm the second one here.
"Any French homework?" Toby asks.
"No" my short answer sounds ruder than intended so I add "at least not that I know of."
Satisfied he returns to his seat and I replace my earphone before slipping into my usual chair at the back.
I close my eyes and sigh. Today is going to be one long day.
