"Sawyer please, please, please!" Sawyer heard the faint noise through his daze of reality, but the desperation of the voice triggered alertness.
At the time, he was so confused. His mind was a mess, he felt like he was missing key points in his brain, but he pushed all the thoughts away when he focused his eyes on Alexis who was kneeling beside him in a mess of her own tears.
"Lexi," He whispered, pulling her in close. She sobbed into his shoulder, but like others would have been, Sawyer wasn't awkward or uncomfortable comforting her; they were too close for that. "I'm okay, I'm here," He stroked his hand over her hair and sighed. He didn't even know if he was okay at all.
"What happened? Jaydn texted saying that you weren't here when he came to pick you up, they wouldn't let me leave school until the end of the period and when I came home, you were here, unconscious on the floor. and your stomach..." She started sobbing again and Sawyer stared at her in bewilderment.
"I don't... I don't know," He muttered, curling her in his arms once again. What did happen? Last I remember I was running around the apartment, did I ever see Jaydn come? He thought, his brain was muddled. What did Alexis say about my stomach? It HURTS.
He pulled away from Alexis and pulled up his shirt, gasping when he saw it. Messy stitches had been sewed along the bottom of his rib cage and all the way down to his belly button.
"What? I don't remember this," He murmured and Alexis looked him, concern shining through. She got to her feet and held out her hand to pull Sawyer up after her. He accepted her hand and let her pull him up. He grimaced when the pain bit into his stomach. He couldn't go to Canada like this. Canada, he remembered. I'm meant to be in Canada. I've lost my chance.
"No!" Sawyer exclaimed. "I'm not in Canada, I'm not going to get a chance of attempting the trial." Sawyer looked immediately glum and put a hand to his forehead- that's when he saw it.
"What's this?" He murmured to himself. His arm had been clawed at, though the blood had dried. He examined it more closely and frowned. "Do- do you see words too?" He showed his arm out to Alexis and she lightly held it, her frown deeper than his.
"Humanity's enb?" She stated, though it sounded more like a question.
"I think it's Humanity's end. What the fuck?" He mumbled and let out a groan. The pain in his stomach was sharper. "Help me to the bed," He said. Alexis wrapped her arm around his waist immediately and they stumbled back to the bed.

Sawyer couldn't breath. It was dark, he couldn't see anything. He was gasping and couldn't find air... again? It felt familiar, he'd had this feeling before. Where though? Was there any time in a person's life where they couldn't breath for this long, and survived? It was new technology this was, a new creature even...
Sawyer awoke with a yelp, sweating all over. He was back in his bed and the familiar feeling was gone. It wasn't familiar, he thought. I've never not been able to breath before. Sawyer yawned and stumbled off the bed and into the kitchen where Alexis sat at their kitchen bench on the phone, her face in true concentration.
She glanced up at him, muttering into the phone before hanging up. She smiled. "Hey sweets. That was Jaydn, he wants to talk to you and will be here in five," Alexis explained and Sawyer nodded and flicked his eyes to the clock. 4:47. Was it am or pm? All the windows were closed, he had no idea.
Sawyer spent the next few minutes mindlessly chewing at some toast, it tasted like chalk in his mouth and he couldn't focus on anything- his mind kept going back to the missing memories. He didn't even see Jaydn come in until he stood right in front of Sawyer.
