26- Yeji

My mom's grip on my arm hurts as she pulls me towards her room. She seems mad, what's going on?

She opens her door and she aggressively pushes me to go inside. She follows then slams the door.

"Why didn't you tell me she's a werewolf!?" She screams at me.

"H–how did you know?" I stutter.

"I can't believe this. You like a werewolf? How could you? I can't believe she fooled me. She drank blood like she's been doing it for a while" my mom shakes her head in disbelief.

"How did you know?" I ask her again.

"San told me. Right now they should be taking her to the council and you are gonna be there too—"

"San reported her!" I angrily spit out.

"No, he told me and I reported her. It's the only way to make sure you will stay as Queen."

"Mom, why would you do that? If you didn't want us to be together you could have just warned me or even threatened me. Why get the council involved?" I feel so lost right now. What's gonna happen to Ryujin?

"Because I know that won't work. You'll secretly see her behind my back. It's the only way for me to protect you. So you're gonna go to that meeting, pretend that you knew she's a werewolf and that she decided to pursue but you rejected her because you know it's not allowed."

"Mom, I can't turn my back on her. I let her. I did try to push her away but in the end I chose her too. I can't neglect her" I say.

"Do that and you're both dead. I'm not gonna lose my daughter because some stupid werewolf have a crush on her. Do you not understand how serious this is?" She says, clearly annoyed.

"I do know, mom but I also can't let her be punished alone" I answer.

"Yeji, don't side with her during that meeting. You have the whole vampire clan relying on you. Please" she pleads.

I really don't know what to do now. Should I lie and should I defend Ryujin? Defending her would mean I would be punished too.

"If you defend her then both of you will die but if you let her take the fall, there's a chance they'll just punish her" my mom informs me. Maybe it's better to not defend her but then she will hate me.

"How do you know they won't kill her" I ask.

"Because nothing deep happened between the two of you. You didn't have sex and she didn't mark you."

"Mark me?" I ask.

"It's something werewolves do to their mates. I don't understand why she would go after a vampire instead of her mate" my mom wonders.

"I am her mate" I say.

"What? That's a lie. She's lying to you" my mom says.

"Why would she lie? Me being her mate won't benefit her. I feel like what's going on right now is a perfect example of that" I reason to her.

"How can you be her mate then?" She continues to think out loud.

"Why would the moon goddess do that? Is she punishing me by making my daughter suffer?" She continues to talk.

"Why would she punish you? Did you do something?" I ask.

She shakes her head, "What?"

"You said the moon goddess might be punishing you, why would she?" I ask.

"For all the humans that died because of me. I took innocent lives because of my anger" she says.

"That's not important right now. We have to find a way to stop her so she doesn't mention that you're her mate" my mom starts walking around trying to think of a plan.
