i peer down at the screen of my phone, which had just lightened with a notification from facebook messenger. once i unlock my phone, i see that it's cecilia.

jeez thats heaps. thanks xxx
i put my phone back down on my bedside table, and pick the book back up that i was reading. the hobbit. it's a pretty good book, and that's saying something because reading is second nature to me, so i've read a lot of good books. i try not to read in front of londin though because once he caught me reading the fault in our stars. that didn't end well - he was in stitches for at least an hour and would randomly burst out laughing after that.
londin and i were close as kids - two peas in a pod. now, we have vast differences. for example, the vamps are my favourite band, he dislikes them. i don't know if i could go as far to say he hates them, but it's probably close. i wouldn't know why. also, i like to read, he, not so much. the most he reads is the front of a chocolate wrapper to see what flavour he wants. oh, and of course, i have a girlfriend, he doesn't. he constantly teases me about the former two, but at least i have a leg up with the latter.
my phone dings again. i groan, putting down my book once more to reply.

i'll be round in a jiffy xx
i quickly finish the chapter that i'm on, put the bookmark in place and place the book next to my phone on my bedside table. i get up and check my reflection in the mirror. i look like just rolled out of bed - which i kind of did, in a way. just as i'm smoothing my hair into something that doesn't resemble a bird's nest, the doorbell rings, i bound down the stairs taking two at time.
joey just beats me to the door.
joey: (cries) cecy!
joey adores cecilia. but not as much as me of course.
cecilia: hey big fella. can i see jesse?
joey: uh-huh!
he turns to run up the stairs to get me, but i'm already behind him so he barrels straight into me.
i ruffle his hair.
me: watch where you're going big guy
he grins and runs back off to the living room where him and beunka are watching thomas the tank engine.
i turn back to cecilia, grinning, and sweep her into a hug.
me: come on in.
