Diverse got up it was the weekend usually she get up earlier but today she got up around 12:30 p.m. her mom was at the local grocery store. Since winning the lottery. she's been quite famous we live in in Rhode Island. It was just last week I can't believe my mom and I win that kind of money. We had all kind of friends over that we never had before the lottery winning. And I definitely never seen anyone as gorgeous as,18-year-old Jarvis McDaniels. His dad Larry McDaniel's on the local gas and log store his model is gas for your car and logs for your fireplace what better deal. It must be a great deal because everyone here loves it it's always packed no matter what time of year. But my mom she's in love with the bakery on the other side of the store they have all kinds of goodies she's not a huge lady she's medium size I say if you had to judge your size she was a nine and a half. I was tiny petite I wore a size 3 I had long wavy black hair with brown eyes. My skin complexion well I was mixed mom just said it like that so I never argued. But when I went to go do my driver's test thank God I passed I have my license. I didn't know what to say if I was black white Chinese Hispanic so I just put mixed. Good thing this is a small Big Town cuz it didn't matter much. But for some reason after Jarvis McDaniels I want to know what I was so I asked Mom what am I diverse you're my child. I know Mom but am I black white hispanic Chinese you mix like I said mixed with what.for some reason she didn't like me asking that she looked at me as if I had just betrayed her. Your father's black they saw you need to know so I am black is that what you want to be I want to be what I am Mom diverse said. Mom you're mixed too aren't you yes with what Italian and black so when you go to do your what are you you say Italian or do you say black I say mix. But now I'll just go Italian and you can just go black if that's what you want I don't care mom at this point I don't care. If you want me to say mixed I'll say mix it don't matter. well enough about our family tree. How much money did we win he went to the grocery store and afterwards I know you went by the gas station so how much money did we win. It'll be in the local papers in the morning. We won 300 million. Mom are you serious yes 300 million. Wow this more money than I've ever seen in my whole entire life diverse said yes it's more than I've seen in my whole entire life. Well we go to press in the morning. Put on your best dress.
Mom I don't own a best dress or put on whatever you got that's appropriate fine I know how to dress mom. What are you wearing one of my Sunday dresses. Put on that pretty green one.i was thinking About the pretty pink one. That always had the pretty little flowers. Okay fine diverse. Don't you have a date to get ready for. I'm already ready. No ma'am I don't think that's appropriate for your first date. Maybe you're right . I will put a jacket over it. That might do it. Well here he comes where you going to the pond. That's very romantic hey Mom I'm only 17. But be careful is that his dad's car.? At first I thought it was but it's actually his wow nice car. You know Mom maybe you should buy a new car with all that money. I'm not going to change so much because I have a lot of money. Well because we have a lot of money. But it be better than a 18 year old car that's older than me. I kind of like my Hyundai Mom it's 18 years old. Well maybe and a couple of dresses and that's all. I hope you're talking about for yourself mom.
Actually I was for the first time actually I was. Well you better not keep the young man waiting, I'll see you when you get back .not too late okay not too late. And the diverse left and close the doors behind her. Diverse not come back too late. We set up talking about what to do in the morning with the lottery ticket winnings I guess I would go buy me a car and though it was millions I still did not want to spend too much on the car. Diverse and myself got up around 7:00 a.m. we ate breakfast took a shower and by the time we were finished it was 8:30. We went to Rhode Island car lot there was a beautiful probe I'd rather liked it it didn't come the color I wanted so I asked the car lot man Carlos Paisley if I could have it painted blue he said what color blue and then I got to thinking there's lots of blues huh yes he said but the choice is yours so I looked at the verse and I said what's your favorite color I really don't have a favorite color but you could always do the in between what about ocean blue yes I like that or you could do a green nah she said I like ocean blue I like sky blue too well Mom diverse said now you're getting complicated just choose a color don't want to say anything it's a brand new car wow the words coming off your lip diverse makes me feel guilty you're not supposed to feel guilty for winning. Okay okay I won't ocean blue good job Mom your first choice. And can we have it with a sunroof I like that idea Mom good choice. She counted counted it out 11,000 paid the car dealer. And that was just for the extra things she wanted the total bill came out to 52,999 the insurance was included. I drove the old car home. It's a good thing I learned early. Mom said I could use that car I can pay to fix it up I said Mom I'm fine this car is older than I am. She laughed and she drove the new car in the driveway and I drove the old car and placed it behind the house. We got out and walked together to the driveway while discussing going for a drive she said after lunch I said okay Mom after lunch we go take the new car the probe for a ride. After lunch we went for drive the car drove smooth it was brand new mom smiled every inch of the way. See I'm happy for you Mom finally something brand new. I sat down on the benches while mom ordered us two slurpees . As we said we discussed what we would do next with our winnings mom I think we need a new house a new house mom said as if we were broke. Well Mom that's what you do when you win the lottery you spend it I don't know diverse mom said. Don't you think we're going a little bit too fast. Mom she sounded disappointed. I don't mean we can spend some of it but I'm not buying a new house not just yet. By Friday we had already purchased a new home and by Saturday we were moving in it I can't believe you just gave up the house. Mom you could always sell it it's already paid for. Maybe I'll keep it Mom I am 17. Diverse said smiling. And I have a new boyfriend diverse said waiting for a response from her. I knew it was a reason why you wanted a house. The verse I don't feel comfortable about this you're only 17. I'm not talking about moving now I'm talking about he's already paid for we can rent it out and when I'm ready for it maybe. Oh that does sound a little bit better mom said. Besides the verse said I would enjoy the new house it is a three bedroom. I like that fireplace mom said. So do I.I didn't want to sound too happy but I did love that it was huge and had a fireplace. It was hot out so maybe she might put a pool. I have to work on that part. Everyone was starting to notice us. Family members were coming by that we hadn't seen in years congratulating us. And Mom still went to work but why I don't understand. 300 million why Mom we're still arguing about it. Be home relaxing doing things. What playing with a easy bake oven. No Mom really baking go out do something I haven't been out in years. That's what I'm talking about Mom diverse said go out do things don't you have friends yes I have friends diverse what do you take me for I just don't want to be the one that's used and abused because I have money. Cuz we have money diverse said. It doesn't matter I don't want to be used. That is too much money mom to use that's a lot of money and in this lifetime we deserve it look how we suffered. Diverse I know how you feel but we can't go through the money. Okay okay let's draw straws one more thing. Diverse smiled, oh no Mom said please I said. I don't know the diverse. It won't be long. A small party 10 people diverse your well-known you know more than 10 people okay mom okay not more than 50. Can I think about a diverse? Yes Mom you can but can I know by tomorrow I kind of like bragged. You're lucky you're a straight a student. Okay invite your friends but everyone should be home by 1:00 a.m. please yes ma'am the very smiles. Before I can finish getting into the house good she was on the phone telling everyone house party. After dinner I sat down watching some TV we still have some more moving to do but not much cuz Mom was finally convinced to buy new things in the new home and leave the old things in the old home. Which made it much easier to move. Mom gave me some party money and some spending money so I was able to get everything I wanted and it was beautiful. Jarvis and I sat outside watching the Moon it was so pretty out to music was going no one cared they just want to have fun. And for the first time I was able to be relaxed. I cannot believe that money could make you this famous and well known news had travel fast. Jarvis Bent over and kiss me. This was my first kiss. So I kissed him back tenderly. Afterwards we watch everyone dancing and having fun. I could tell Jarvis love the kiss as much as I did. Afterwards it was 12:45 and everyone was leaving Jarvis stayed and help me clean up. By the time we were finished it was 2:00 a.m. I was tired. Seem like it was a fairytale and that our lives were moving in slow motion. The next day we were at school mom was in her class and I was in mine. I started dozing off. My teacher woke me up too much partying last night. What Mr spring. I asked? So he repeated it too much partying last night. Yes sir I'm sorry it will never happen again. I should hope not I heard you guys won the lottery yes sir we did. Well don't let it get it in the way of your studies. No sir I won't. And with that Mr springs went back to the front of the class and begin a lecture on cultural lifestyle the difference that was. At the class I met mom for lunch. I didn't feel like any company or anyone I just wanted my mom. Spending the money was fun now it's just tiring. We talked for a while and then afterwards I went back to class thinking how blessed we were to have won the lottery. I know some people in the town think we should give back. Especially the hard times we had a lot of people help us and pulled us through. When I told Mom after class she just didn't want to give anything she was afraid of being poor again. Maybe you can build something and help with some things I don't know if fund raise it for the media have the building for something I don't know Mom something I was getting depressed. I don't know why I felt like this I should be happy. Jarvis stop by we talked briefly, he said he had to help his dad at the store. Maybe we could do something like that own a business what do I like to do. That was it we had all that money and I had no purpose until today. I tried to convince my mom that I had to have a purpose for the first time I didn't even know why I was going to school other than to better myself and because of this lottery winnings I know just how to do that. I would not stop school I would finish but Rhode Island had a hospital that needed some help and I thought about it I wanted to give some money there to open a wing to help people I explain the situation Mom finally agreed we went there it was Tuesday right after class we sat with the chief of staff and he loved every inch of my idea The West Wing. It was for the s i c k. It was not for another 3 weeks before the building started adding The West Wing. Finally they placed my name diversity safe Haven. That part they were used for the really sick and I could even help every other week as a candy striper. They had my donation story in my picture and I felt like someone. Jarvis even love the idea he started helping me. We took turns doing the candy stripe shift. And when his dad got sick we work double time. Even my mom helped and they began to get close. Jarvis father even showed her how to invest that was the best part of all the money learning how to put it someplace to make more money. mom love that idea. The first place she invested was his store. Finally was graduation mom had taken the management course. And I had taken the nurse shift. Candy stripe and was great but I wanted to be a full-time nurse so Mom was finished with her management course so she helped Jarvis father, but I still was going. And 6 months later I was finished. And mom wanted something like Mr Jarvis had so she did she opened the store herself I didn't coach her he didn't say anything she did it herself. She finally opened diversity clothes and shop. Her staff was people around town that I had grown up with that she had known and even some newcomers that came freshly to the town. And late at night I wonder sometimes if my mom was ever going to have someone to love her like Jarvis loved me he asked me to marry him. I finally agreed yes Mom said she would help me pick it out my wedding dress that is and help me plan. Her store was perfect. But I had seen the most beautiful dress. The one she had made herself. I wanted that dress it was beautiful. It was perfect. I didn't know why she had made the dress. I didn't want to pry but my eyes was set on that dress. That's the day my problem started with all that money I could not stop it was about to happen. It was late evening , I was torn between my darling daughter versus Phyllis Jetterfield. Who ask for the dress in the first place. It was really beautiful but diverse was my only child and this was her first wedding.phyllis jetterfield Wedding was september 25 and my diverse was September 22nd which meant we had some in between time but my daughter had her eyes set on that dress. No diverse I couldn't mom why not diverse ask her make her another one she won't know the difference oh yes she would diverse I promise I'll make you proud very well mother diverse went to met Jarvis. Hey diverse hey Jarvis diverse gave Jarvis a huge hug he looked like he needed one. What's wrong Jarvis diverse said. Jarvis responded with I think my pa and your mother are sneaking. What do you mean sneaking? diverse looked at him I mean I think there together. Are you sure diverse asks him ?really sounding annoyed just a tad bit. I think I saw them yesterday how diverse ask? Mom was working on you know that dress I like The versatile on the picnic table she was working on that not at 4:30 Jarvis said are you sure diverse ask again yeah I'm sure I don't know if they slept together but they were looking you know kind of like guilty. Diverse got up I've got to go I'll see you later tonight we're okay I'll get some money so we can decorate our old house .
yes Jarvis and she turned around and looked at him I have some money saved up too very well let's meet half and half cool Jarvis said and diverse walked off the porch got in the car the 18-year-old car why she thought about that because Jarvis said he had money too as if she was showing off about the lottery. And she thought to herself see we have $300 million dollars and I still have an old 18 year old car that my mom got from our aunt way before I was born .okay well maybe a year before I was born because I am 17 but I'll be 18 the day after my wedding. And I still want that dress. but Mom said she'll make me another and I'm going to assist her all the way better than that dress she made for whatever her name was. I felt kind of good. about that so I drove home without being guilty or feeling guilty. now my mother on the other hand has a lot of explaining to do. I didn't wait to sit down and make up a conversation I went straight to the punchline Mom are you having an affair with Jarvis's dad? No what made you think that Mom said as if she was hurt. Well Jarvis said he saw you two together acting guilty. Oh wow. Well the truth is yes we like each other but he's not leaving his wife. Exactly Mom they're already separated did you have something to do with that of course not diverse what kind of question is that I'm just asking Mom don't get offended I believe you somewhat. But I was just helping them find something for her, to try to get them back together. Mom is that what you want is that what you really want to get them back together.? Well diverse I don't know" I really don't know but I was helping him so that's what he wants and besides we're friends he helped me invest this business it's great we're making money. Now mom don't go into the making money excuse mom we're rich beyond we won the lottery. Okay why are you really angry I want the dress mom "I told you you can't have the dress. I know and I want to help you make my other dress better than whatever her name is you know her name , Phyllis Jetterfield . Well Jarvis and I are going out and we're going to go to the store and buy some things for the old house do you need anything? of course not diverse I'm good okay .I'm going to get ready and then I'll see you later mom. okay sweetie I'll see you later. Diverse went and took a shower and then she got dressed and left to go meet Jarvis at the store she couldn't wait to give him the news. They are not having an affair my mother assured me . she just went to help pick out a gift for your mom. he wanted to smooth things over, so that they can at least try to get back together. Did you see any gift that your mom got from him? Not yet that's something at least she would have brought to me so that I can see. Maybe she's being secretive. As soon as I get back home I'm going to check with my mom. Well you do that and let me know ,but we're here at the store now let's go get our things let's worry about us today. I agree Jarvis said. We were in the store not more than 10 minutes when I looked up and there was my mother with another man .I was appalled. It'll be all right Jarvis go speak to her .mother what are you doing ?Dad went out and bought you a gift. I can't make you understand Jarvis mother said can we talk about it later.i guess I don't have a choice yes I suppose so. And with that Jarvis and diverse walk away.can you believe that's no wonder my pa has been so distant lately and with your mother yeah I see sad diverse are you going to talk to your father about it I don't know I still have to talk to my mom about it you think they're going to get a divorce they're separated maybe maybe not how do you feel about it Jarvis I don't know yet I have mixed emotions .when I thought that your mom was pushing up on my dad I was kind of upset but when I see my mom with someone else I have mixed emotions. You know Jarvis I think that comes from you just wanting her to be happy. yes maybe that's it can we talk about something else. I guess we can discuss it later. I'm beginning to wonder if getting married just to be separated and divorced why do people get married. What are you saying Jarvis oh nothing never mind I was just thinking out loud.jarvis said let's just drop the subject. They walk through the store they were quiet we will choose a few items and then we'll just call it quits until tomorrow. I agreed to 100% I was tired. And I knew Jarvis was going straight home so he could talk to his mom. We arrive back at the house 45 minutes later and then I said goodnight to Jarvis we both were tired and not in the talkative mood so tonight was easier to say good night .I walked in saw my mom on the couch watching TV and I went upstairs .and I put on my pajamas and a laid across my
Bed. I turned over and looked at the ceiling. I guess I was in deep thought because I did not hear my phone ring at all. I just needed peace and quiet.
Finally I answered the phone hello hey this Jarvis I just called to say good night. I'm sorry about all that mess that happened earlier my mom has a lot to explain. I was thinking maybe and then Jarvis stopped talking. Are you sure we're doing the right thing getting married look at my mom and dad look what they're doing. What are you trying to say Jarvis I was emotional by this time. I'm just saying maybe we need a break. A break Jarvis. I think you need a rest your brain says went on vacation. Maybe you're right I do need rest but I still think we should think about it a little bit longer. Well do you love me Jarvis?
Of course I do Jarvis said. I just don't want to end up like my mom and dad. Jarvis we choose our own life our own fate Diverse responded Yeah maybe you're right we'll talk about it more tomorrow. Jarvis said Good night and went sil6 waiting, for diverse to say good night good night Jarvis. And with that diverse hung the phone up. diverse turned over and kept looking up at the ceiling.I can't believe after all that I've been through he wants to go ahead and have cold feet. Men can't live with them and you don't want to live for them. Well if you don't want to cater to that every psycho scenario. I grabbed one of my bridal magazines.
And I flipped through the pages.
There was nothing that I cared for more than that dress that my mom had made. And then I saw it the most beautiful gown ever the sweetheart with the locket. I quickly looked at the price not that I didn't have money. But because I knew my mom could order it. I never thought about it winning the lottery meant that I could do whatever I want for the first time I was ready to go all out and he has cold feet talk about bad luck. I got up and went into the living room mama I think I found the perfect dress you might be off the hook oh really Mom looked at me happily. Oh I have this dress I got it on yesterday. It is very very beautiful and it comes with the locket where you can put your photos in up from the wedding. What size do you have is it in my size. I think I have your size come by the shop tomorrow.
Okay I will do that diverse said thanks Mom.my mom Answer me when she gotback into the room lock the dress in the book and place it on the vanity table. Afterwards she got up and took a shower. And then she finally got into bed she felt confident and relaxed and she driftedoff to sleep. The next morning jarvis was knocking on the door. I got up and let him in. Good morning good morning I said to him would you like some coffee oranges or anything no thank you. I can't stay long I have to go into the store today Dad and your mom are going to be together today they have some things that they have to do about the wedding. Why isn't he doing it with your mom. I know they are separated but it's still your wedding. And they have to work this out not just for them but for you and my sake as well. I said you're right but it's your mom and my dad they're going to do some things for us. Jarvis looked at me do you want to go decorate the other house. Sure why not I said. I think I found the perfect dress. Jarvis responded.the perfect dress mom said she has it at her shop. Diverse said to Jarvis. I'm going to go in a few hours and look into it. Do you still have cold feet diverse asked Jarvis? I don't have cold feet I just don't know why people get married if they want to get a divorce. Well our wedding won't be like that Jarvis .that's what they all say.jarvis said to diverse that's what they all say. Are you coming or what yes I'm coming but very well you won't let me rest until we get this over with let's go and isn't it bad luck for the groom to see the dress before the wedding we're not the typical bride and groom I am a 300 million lottery winner and you're a workaholic that's what I am a workaholic for my dad yeah something like that. We're well to do. Yeah your dad do make a lot of money.diverse replied. It took them 25 minutes to get to her mother's shop. Mom we came to look at the dress you told me about over the phone. Coming coming hold your horses. It was the most beautiful dress I had ever seen and I thought Phyllis was more beautiful. Well can you change the color? Can it be blue Jarvis ask, I suppose so, diverse that's my favorite color. Well I suppose we're going all out I like fuchsia so fuchsia and blue if that's what you want that's what we want. How long will it take to dye it ?give me a day or two and then I'll have it back here and you can come and look at it I like that oh you can't see it now Jarvis not until the wedding you already seen it white but I don't want bad luck so until after the wedding all right all right you're the one that convinced me to coming down and look at these darn things I was fine doing manly things well now you're fine doing ladies and manly things and we're finished thank God are you ready yes I'm ready mom can you get that ready for us no problem I have it for you by tomorrow late okay . On the way home we discussed the dress I think it's going to be very pretty now what part are you going to put pink and what part are you going to put blue I guess you have to wait to see Jarvis okay okay fine let's change the subject I just thought it was very interesting two colors they have their ways of making it beautiful. D i v e r s e she was quiet through the drive home but before we pulled into the driveway she said I suppose we could do the top blue since you like that and the bottom blue And the top pink or would you rather the bottom pink the top blue that is interesting question but I thought we weren't talking about it what do you want to do Jarvis. Okay what color is your veil oh wow I got it now I'm a surprise you all over again forget I even said anything about it d i v e r s e said. Are you coming in or are you going home. I guess I'm coming in okay I parked the car over here so you can get your car out later. Tomorrow we have to go and finish up the new house well the old house that's our new house.we made it in the house.jarvis was
so glad that part was over.all they have to do now is pick out his tuxedo.
