I said, "Don't do that."
She said, "Don't do what?"
I said, "Don't get my hopes up like that. I know your not ready to marry and settle down yet."
She sighed, and said, "I'm not, but I'm willing to try."
I said, "Kat, I'm not gonna be the guy who forces you into marriage, or anything else that you don't want to do. I'm sorry."
She nodded and left my apartment. I sighed and walked into my bedroom.

                                 ..................

Weeks fly by, customers came and went, my band jug filled up each month. I had close to $20,000, and I was getting prepared to leave Chicago. I pulled my phone out, called the landlord, told him I was moving out, called Rent-A-Center and told them to come get their stuff, and then I put my phone away in my pocket.
I walked into my closet, pulled out enough for a new car, walked out of my apartment, locked up, headed down the stairs, and walked six blocks to a car dealership. I looked through the cars, and bought a 1967 Chevy Impala, still in good condition, that the owner had for himself put away.
I handed over the cash, signed the ownership papers, took the keys, got in, started the engine, and drove back to the apartment. I parked in front, shut the engine off, got out, went upstairs, unlocked my door, waited for the Rent-A-Center people, watched as they took their stuff, and once they left, I quickly packed my stuff, and then brought it all down stairs, and into my trunk, which was just my clothes, my tattoo equipment, and backpack full of cash.
I walked back into the building, grabbed a piece of paper, pulled out a pen, and wrote a note to Kat. I grabbed a piece of tape, walked out, leaving the door unlocked, and put the paper on her door. I sighed, started walking past the old couples apartment, I knocked, and the old man opened the door, a few minutes later.
I said, while handing him my apartment keys, "Give this to the landlord."
He nodded, and as he was shutting the door, I seen another man laying on top of the old woman, they both still partially dressed, but they were breathing heavy, like they had just got done making out. I was glad they found someone to help out with their sexual desires.
I walked down the stairs, to my car, got in, started the engine, and started driving. The funny thing was, what I had wrote on the note, was the song that came on the radio.
'You Deserve Much Better Than Me' from Jake. Which was a song by Hinder.
I drove to a supermarket, needing some food for the road. I turned the engine off, headed inside, and while I was grabbing some food, I overheard a woman speaking, saying something about someone being in a treatment facility. I walked to where the woman was, and I had noticed that it was Selena Gomez's mother.
I said, "Sorry, but what did you just say?"
She said, "My daughter Selena is in a treatment facility in Tennessee, and she doesn't want to leave. I'll pay you for your help."
I said, "I'll help you, but you don't have to pay."
She smiled and said, "Thank you."
I nodded, went to the front of the store, paid for my stuff, went outside, got into my car, started it up, while setting the bag on the seat behind me, and I drove to Tennessee.

                                 .....................

Once I arrived, I shut the engine off, got out while grabbing the empty grocery bag, locked up my car, threw the bag in the trash, and went inside.
I stopped at the desk, and a man said, "Can I help you sir?"
I said, "Yes. I'm here to see a Ms. Gomez. First name Selena. Middle name Marie."
He said, "Does she know you're coming?"
I said, "No, I wanted to surprise her. I came all the way from Los Angeles, Cali, to surprise her. Her mother told me she was here."
She actually was in Chicago, for unknown reasons, when she told me, but this guy didn't know that.
He said, "You have quite a lot of work done. Do you shoot tattoos?"
I said, "Yes I do actually. I'll give you a free one, if you show me which room is hers."
He looked both left and right and said, "I'm normally not supposed to do this, since you didn't make an appointment, but, I'll do it."
I followed him to the last room on the right, I nodded at him, and he walked away. I knocked on the door, and a few minutes later, the handle turned, the door opened, and Selena stood in the doorway, looking beautiful. She had on a tan shirt and beige pants.
She said, "Can I help you?"
I said, "May I come in?"
She said, "Not till you tell me why you're here."
I said, "I came all the way here from Chicago. I'm a huge fan, I have a proposition for you, and I met your mother, who said you were here and won't let you leave."
She moved to the side, I walked in, took a seat in a chair, while she leaned against the wall and I said, "I may not look or seem like much, but I promise you, that I'm not gonna put any type of stress on you. My proposition is, leave with me, and I promise you won't ever have to be in a place like this ever again. I know you don't want to leave, but your mother misses you, and she feels like you don't need this place. I feel the same way."
She said, "How do you know this place is so bad, you've probably never been to a place like this before. Plus, I know she misses me."
I said, "Not a treatment facility, but I have been to prison, and it feels exactly the same."
She said, "Where do you plan on going?"
I said, "I'm headed to Los Angeles, California. I want to make a better life of myself, I want to become a bodyguard, and I want your help."
She said, "Help on what?"
I said, "Everything you can give."
She said, "How did you get here? Do you even have money?"
I said, "I drove here, and yeah, I have plenty of money."
She said, "How can I trust you, besides you saying you met my mother?"
I said, "You can't on my word, but you can on your gut."
She didn't say anything for a few minutes, and I said, "If you decide to leave with me, then I'll be shooting tattoo on the guy at the desk. If you don't show up, I'll know you don't want to leave."
She nodded, I stood up, walked out of her room, headed to the main desk and said, "I'll give you a second free tattoo, if you take her out of the system, if she decides to leave."
He nodded, I walked out to my car, grabbed my tattoo equipment out of the trunk, and went back inside.
The dude showed me into the staff room, where I set up my stuff, and he had someone take over until we got done. He told me what he wanted, I wiped his arm, and got to work. Two hours later I finished up on a bare arm that I made into a whole sleeve, which turned into his two free tattoos. I wiped his arm, one final time, he stood up, and checked it out in the mirror, while I cleaned up and put everything away. We walked out of the room, the dude, took his shift back, the other person grabbed her purse and walked out the front door.
I took my stuff out to my car, closed the trunk, headed back inside, and Selena was standing by the desk. She had a blue and black suitcase, she had on a dark pink hoodie and a matching pair of sweatpants. I walked up to the desk, and the dude was taking Selena out of the system.
The dude gave me a thumbs up, and I took Selena's suitcase, and she followed me outside, where I put her suitcase in the backseat, opened the passenger door, helped her in, closed the door, walked over to my side, and she had opened my door for me.
I got in, thanked her, and she said, "So this is a road trip back to Los Angeles?"
I said, "It is very much. It will give you time to trust me."
She said, "So how is this gonna work between us?"
I said, "However you want it to work, is how it will work."
She said, "So we're gonna live together and not be a couple?"
I said, "Is that how you want it?"
She said, "For now I guess. Just until I know your not gonna hurt me, and your gonna keep to your word."
I said, "I can understand completely."
I started the engine, pulled out of the parking spot, and started driving. A few hours later, I pulled into a Motel in Arkansas. I shut the engine off, we got out, we went inside to the Manager's desk, I paid for a room for the night, she handed me a key, and we walked back outside.
We walked to our room, I put the key in the lock, turned the handle, opened the door, and we walked in. I shut and locked the door, and I looked at the light weight manageable motel room.
I sighed and said, "This will have to do. I'll take the floor."
She nodded, I grabbed the second pillow off of the bed, threw it in front of the bed, grabbed a blanket out of the closet, layed down, Selena shut the light off, and I stared at the ceiling.
