He quickly raised his right arm, palm down, and the stranger was stopped. Adam had his heart firmly in his new magic's grip; the man's breadbasket was being pulled up by some unseen force, and the man was staring at him with wide eyes.

Adam said nothing, just staring into the man's eyes as he quickly twisted his right hand, concentrating the magic on the stranger's neck, and snapped his neck with a loud crack.

The man, no longer held up by Adam's magic, fell to the ground with a smack, but Adam just kept walking, leaving the man lying on the street.

It was pure hell. His head felt like it was about to break in two, his throat was dry, and his limbs ached with exhaustion. He had underestimated how strong the ritual would be; he felt like a tank had run over him. He would never be able to go to school like that. Just as he was about to drown in self-pity, Jenna opened the door.

"Adam, why are you still in bed? You have school soon'', Jenna asked him, confused, when she saw him still in bed. "I can't walk; I'm in pain; I'd rather stay at home today; could you call and tell them I won't be coming?" His voice sounded like he hadn't used it in years.

"Yeah, no problem, you better rest," Jenna replied while closing his door again. Adam didn't really answer her but burrowed back under his covers to go back to sleep. What a bad start to a day.

~~~
He really hadn't done anything all day; he just laid in bed going through a few grimoires. It was late in the evening when he ran downstairs to get something to eat. What he hadn't expected were guests at his house. Stefan, Elena, Bonnie, Caroline, and another man sat on the sofa, staring at him.
Maybe he should have worn something else than a sweater that was way too big for him with very short pants that you can't even see because the sweater covers them.
"Adam, I didn't know you were home," Elena said to him, looking at him confused. "I stayed home today," he replied, standing awkwardly. "Come sit down with us; there's enough space," Stefan said to him.
