"Watch where your going you dirty color, who would want to be mint? Such an outsider color that doesn't mean anything!" I tried to get back up but was cornered in a circle with the one black coming towards me. "Speak!" "I-I" I stuttered out. "You're so weak!" He grans my shirt and lifts his fist, i close my eyes waiting for the fist to hit my face. Just as he was about to punch me I felt the back of mu shirt get yanked and I was being dragged through the crowd of people I was so wrapped up in trying to figure out who it was that I didn't realize I was in a corner and standing next to me was the one and only Lauren Doan. I stood up quickly and gathered my composure. "Thanks for saving me, I really appreciate it."I said quickly. "Yeah, she said gloomily. Just then the bell rang "well bye Lauren, I have to get to class, thanks again!" As I flashed her a big smile. I ran off without another word.

Lauren's Point of View

She walked away, why did I do that? I'm getting soft, by why does it feel like it we were had some sort of connection? It doesn't feel right, I wish the feeling would just go away, like my color did. I miss it, but being like this was easier. I do whatever I want, being a black made me loosen up. No more fear of difference, no more people calling me out for my flaws, now we are all alike. Except for her. I am snapped out of my thought as James, the guy who attacked Melissa approached me with two of his followers behind him. "what was that all about Lauren? I almost had her." I felt disgusted with him like I was everyone else. "Lay off James, we have a project to do this week and we got partnered up, I don't want to be doing all the work" I lied. I was really good at lying, Sometimes it scared me how well I could. "Whatever you say Laur" He left after a short pause. I then went to calls know that I would be late. I decided to ignore that Melissa had existed that whole day and stealthily went through the gates of the school hoping not to catch Melissa on the way out. " Hey Lauren" oh shoot... "Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to come over today so we can get some of the project done" " sure" I mumbled looking at the floor finding no use in arguing. We would have to start it anyway. " okay meet me at my house at around 4 okay?" "sure" "here is my address" she handed me a strip of paper and strode off flashing her usual gigantic, I couldn't help but smile to myself at how funny she was without even making a joke. wait, no, I can't be thinking like that, she is a color, a reject, an outsider. We can't be friends, only blacks and other blacks get along. Colors and blacks don't mix, it's not possible. In all of history the blacks have always hated the colors. Then why am I this way? I pushed the thoughts aside and started to head home. What a rough day. I walked home only to be greeted by my sister, she was a color, a radiant red and my brother a sparkling blue. My mother and father are both yellows. I used to be like them, I had a color, but then the blacks found me and I liked what they gave me and I stuck with. " HI mom I'm home" "Hi Lauren, how was school?" " Fine" I replied sheepishly. I'm going over someone's house to do a project later." "ohhhhh do you have a friend" "no just someone I got stuck with as a partner." Okay have fun sweetie" "bye mom" I walked off in silence to her house, when I reached it I took everything in. The small cottage cheese house with four windows a gray roof, and a small apricot tree standing in front of it. I sighed and walked up to the front of the house. I raised my had and slowly knocked on the door.
