The Rujmaya Palace was well lit by the candles set in beautiful chandeliers hanging above. All the guests were dressed in shades of reds, matching the theme of the Hearts Ball. The King, Ranjit Rana Mewar held the Ball every year for his beloved Queen, Sophia Grecia Mewar.

King Ranjit and Queen Sophia had always been a beautiful pair. At first their Kingdoms were not sure of the mixing cultures, but the passionate lovers showed everyone they were meant to be. At least, that's how the story goes. And on this night, six years ago, the King had thrown the Queen a ball to ask for her hand in marriage. It was more than an alliance. It was absolutely, positively, undeniably true love.

Ana Santiago stood silently by, watching the two Royals gaze into each other's eyes. They sat in their thrones that were quite a distance from each other. Although that probably had more to do with the giant read heart of roses in between them than anything else.

Ana's assignment tonight was to make sure the Queen stayed safe, since she was after all the head of the Queen's security.

The Queen, however, had other plans for Ana. Queen Sophia insisted that she partake in the nights festivities, teasing that she might just catch a man tonight.

The Queen gave Ana a gown earlier that evening commanding her to put it on.

It was a beautiful shade of deep red, glittering with tiny sparkling jewels sown into the fabric. The gown was strapless and flowed out from her waist just enough to accentuate her figure.

She had two favorite things about the red gown; one, it had pockets, and two, it had a slit running all the way up near her left thigh, allowing for easy movement.

Once she strapped her right thigh sheath on and placed her favorite knife inside, she was ready.

.........................~~~~~~..........................

Krish Mandal stood across the Ballroom at the King's side, watching the guests for any suspicious behavior. He was the King's head of Security, and this was the biggest Event of the year, the anniversary of the King's engagement to Queen Sophia.

Krish had no intent on attending the event, he was just going to watch from the side in uniform. But the King insisted that he enjoy himself as well, and teased him about maybe finally finding a girl. But there was no girl in his life. Well, unless you counted the one across the way from him.

Ana, the Queen's head of security was always getting on his nerves. She was so competitive and proud, not to mention feisty. He couldn't have a single conversation with the girl before she turned it into a competition. At first he was attracted to her, she was after all very beautiful, but then she beat him during a duel and kept rubbing it in his face. His attraction quickly stopped then.

That was four years ago. Their rivalry was well known throughout the palace as it grew into the beast it now was.

"Why don't you ask her to dance?"

The King said with a quirked eyebrow, his words shaking Krish from his thoughts.

"Because I do not care to ask her to dance, your Majesty."

The King smirked and Krish saw him glance over at the Queen. "You look like you care. She certainly does look pretty tonight. And you are here to enjoy yourself as much as you are here to protect me."

"With all due respect my King, I would not enjoy myself dancing with her."

He stayed stiffly at the King's side, hoping his stature would indicate he didn't want to talk about Ana anymore. The King sighed dramatically and Krish knew it wouldn't be good for him. "I hate to do this to you, Krish. I really do. But I order you to go ask lovely Ana for a dance."
