Rain drummed softly on the ground, Two cats were slipping through the undergrowth, and through a clearing. The moors had no trees to take cover under, so rain poured freely. A yellow-cream she-cat led the way, her pelt slicked back with wetness the rain had brought. A golden tabby tom followed, his muscles showing even with his rain soaked pelt. His golden yellow eyes glowed. He was focused ahead at the yellow-cream she-cat.
They paused under one of the scarce trees. He glanced around nervously. "Are we almost there?" he asked the she-cat.
"We're not far from the Mooncrystal, I promise." the she-cat reassured him.
He nodded. He thought back to how his leader had died. Now, it was his turn to take his spot. They walked for a little while longer before reaching the Mooncrystal. The Mooncrystal was in a small cave.
"Now, you can't talk until after the ceremony," the yellow-cream she-cat reminded him.
"I know, Tansyberry." he replied.
They walked into the cave, where he waited until Tansyberry gave him the signal to start sleeping.
He hadn't ever been this cold. There wasn't a sight or sound of StarClan, only the cold and darkness. He opened his eyes. He was near the Great Stump in the clearing, where Gatherings were held. He looked over at Tansyberry, who's eyes were focused on him.
A flicker of black fur caught his eye. "Crowstar?" he breathed.
Crowstar only nodded, before stepping back. In his place stood a black and golden-brown tom. He felt safe, and protected around him. "Dewpelt?" he whispered.
"Yes. I wish I could have told you how proud I am of you before I left, my dear Lionstep." he lowered his muzzle on his head. "I give you a life for understanding." he meowed. "Use it to understand the needs and wants of your Clan, to keep your Clan safe."
A warmth flowed through Lionstep. He pictured his Clan coming to him, with needs. He understood what this life meant, and would use it to its fullest.
Foxstar took his place. Lionstep watched his father walk back to the ranks of StarClan. Stars flowed through his pelt. "He'll watch over you, always." the leader murmured. "I am proud of you. I give you a life for selflessness. Think of not only yourself, but the Clan you now lead."
He received lives for mentoring, certainty in decisions, courage in battle, faith in his ancestors, love for the Clan, and wisdom.
"You are now Lionstar!" Crowstar exclaimed. "A new life has begun! Care for your Clan, honor your ancestors, and live all your lives with pride and dignity."
"Lionstar! Lionstar!" The cats in the clearing shouted.
"Wake up, Lionstar!"
