The Truth

Knock, knock, knock. As Bea runs to open the door she encounters what she just heard. It was a story about Arthur that explains why he got sick. When He was 19 he had his first duel. Many duels later he got shot. But luckily he survived. But the swelling of the wound was making the sickness worse. In 1775 the life expectancy for a man was 38 years, for a woman it was 72 but also 36 because a lot of mothers die giving birth. When Arthur was 27 years old he got into a disagreement and they got into a duel. Arthur would say that he did not care much about the subject but did not disagree. After he got shot a doctor came and helped him try to stop the bleeding. The bullet hit the bottom part of his ear.Tomas was surprised when Arthur's servant,Lucinda told them the story. He was surprised because his own brother Fredrick who was 20 had been in 3 duels and was very thrilled with them,Tomas would have thought Fredrick would have told him about the "getting a infection and getting sick." When Bea opens the door she is surprised to see Emma, Fredrick's soon to be wife.

Arrive

The date was January 15 and Rosemary C. Ellington had been traveling for months. Finally she had made it to the house of the master. Rosemary had stopped at her friend Betty's house for a month because the snow had fallen and she could not ride through it. If by any chance she could her horse would have shut Betty was not married but lived with her father.Betty's father Barney was friends with Rosemary's father so he was kind. Most men do not respect women, only kind ones. As Lucinda opened the door to 667 Oke Avenue to greet her master with joy. Rosemary was kind to people and treated the slaves with respect and equality. Then it was late in the evening Lucinda gave her some food but before she could even touch it she collapsed.

Philip

Philip was born in a wealthy family and did not have any sisters. So it was hard for him to now raise 3 daughters. He tried to do his best to be like his wife who was kind and did not judge people on their gender or color. She was the only one he knew like that besides her sister Rosemary. Philip's father was a murderer, he killed all his daughters. Fortunately his mother saved 5 of them, one of them he poisoned and she got sick then perished as Bea, his daughter would say instead of saying he died. Philip's mother left after his sister perished.Philip then lived with his 4 brothers. Soon one of Philip's mothers friends' husband had a duel with his dad and he died. So he went to live with his friends the Ellington. Arthur was like a brother to Philip since his actual brothers were very occupied with their work and did not have time for him sadly. Then one day at Kings Collage someone, Arthur found him.So that was the story. Philip could not completely say that he hated his father but he did not like his mother, she remarried a man named George. Later on he went to his sister's wedding and met a beautiful young maiden named Elinor. She followed her older sister Dorthy around all the time Philip asked her out,she accepted and married her later on.So if Arthur died his life, life is precious.

Lucinda/ Elinor

Lucinda spent every day tending to Rosemary until she woke up and healed;Rosemary had a severe case of frostbite and a big bruise on her head from her fall. Lucinda was a slave for the Ellington's but also a friend. She was the one that figured out Rosemary was related to Elinor. Elinor was taken away from Rosemary as a baby when their mother was sick. Elinor was taken care of by a slave named Oceania. Oceania had a son of her own and Elinor and Austin, Oceania's son, were best of friends. Then one day Elinor was crushed when African American slaves started throwing rocks at her. Oceania and Austin were of color but were kind so why weren't these people kind? Oceania did not have time to tell her because Elinor was kept captive by runaway slaves. Now not all people of color were poor slaves, Oceania was one of few slaves who got paid and she paid for freedom. One day on the road a white man noticed her in rags and all dirty. He paid the slaves fifty dollars!!!!!! For my freedom, me. I was delighted when he took me to his home and saw another white girl a little older than me. She was my new older sister. My name had changed a lot in those years and I was young. Then one day I went to my sister's friend's wedding. There I met Philip. He was a kind gentleman and has grown a lot in opening his horizons sense then. I am proud of myself for taking action.( of course later on I met my sister and my adventure became even longer.)

The Speech

Today marks the beginning of my first speech. Patrick Henry is the one giving this speech, Give me Liberty or Give me Death. Arthur is getting better but I am not allowed to see him. So, I am going to Richmond, Virginia. Patrick Henry is a great man from what I hear But he started his speech with " No Man..." Awe look, he didn't say men and women at all in the speech, just men! Anyhow besides that I think it was a good speech.

Dear Angelica,

I have been wondering how you are doing. Time is getting really short. Everyone keeps to themselves in Richmond. How is It Doing in Albany? Anyway, I am coming home this summer and I just can't wait. How are you sisters? Arthur is sick. He is in a room all alone. I can't see him. What if he becomes diseased? I miss you.

Love,

Elinor
