chap 4 Love is a drug

Alicia was seated beside Ander. Looking down at her test a 8.5. She was relieved if her parents found out they'd be disappointed.

"Congratulations, Nadia "  says the teacher.

"This exam deserves a ten" says Lu rudely.Alicia gives her a look to shut up.

"Well, so did one of your classmates', and you know that here we grade on a curve, so... I'm sorry" says the teacher.

" Excuse me, on a what?" asks Nadia.

" Haven't they explained this to you? Let me show you. Look.  This curve maps human intelligence. On one end is a minority with low intellectual ability. On the other, there is another minority... which is extremely intelligent. And the majority... falls here in the middle. Let's assume the class is a sample of society. There are those who have a ten, and those with a zero. The rest is distributed here. There can never be two tens, or two zeros. So the grades are assigned before the exam. That's right. If you're in the lower 20%, you fail even if you did well" explains the teacher.

" Damn, that's why I always flunk" says Christian.

"Isn't that a bit unfair?" answers Samuel.

"  Guys, this prepares you for life. Out there, if you're in the lowest 20%, you don't get anything. And on the podium, there can't be two people. If you have any complaints, come to my office hours" announces the teacher as the bell rang.

"Come on Lu. You got a 9.5 you should be happy. This is great for Nadia as this is her ticket for success. While we have money, connections and the grades. Leave her have this win" says Alicia as she looks up to see Lu gone and Carla waking over.

"Shit" whispers Alicia as she tries to quickly grab her things.

Carla sits herself on top of her desk.

"When is our next dinner?" questions Carla fluttering her eyes at Alicia.

"Carla are you okay? I told you that was the last time we do anything together. We are over, Carla. Now I need to go" says Alicia grabbing her bag. 

Carla spots Christian knowing exactly what will get Alicia back to her.

living room

Walking into the room. Alicia sits next to her father.

"Papá, can you make sure that you tell Carla's parents I'm not going on holidays with them and that Carla and I aren't together anymore" asks Alicia as she looks up to him.

Her mother joins them on the couch.

"What happened between you two, my baby" questions her mother.

"Mamá, she was cheating on me and lying to me. She keeps trying to get us back together but I cant trust her anymore" says Alicia as she cries into her arms.

"Sweetie of course. I'll make sure of it" says her father as he lightly rubs her shoulders.

The gala 

Alicia stayed close to her mother that night as Carla had to bring Christian as her date. Knowing it would hurt her.

"Marina, darling, we already said you couldn't invite any friends" says her mother as she sees Mariana and Samuel.

"Mom, he's not my friend. He's my boyfriend. Samuel, let's go" says Mariana.

Samuel watched as Alicia expression went from emotionless to shock to angry to emotionless once again.

The one thought through Alicia's head was WTF. Was Samuel playing a game with her and her sister. 

"Where the fսck are you going? What are you doing? Your tag's come out? " says Guzman as he rips Samuel's jacket.

"Oh, he was going to return it! Try not to get it too dirty" says Lu laughing.

Alicia turns to glare at Lu before looking at Guzman.

"You are an asshole, Guzmán" says Mariana before leaving.

"Guzman, why did you do that? Samuel doesn't deserve you're shit or Lu's. I thought you weren't going to be kind to him. You told me you were just going to ignore him. Guzman every nasty action you do you are losing Mariana and I" says Alicia as she turns and goes to grab a bottle of champagne.

Outside the Gala

Walking outside tipsy. Alicia walks over to Samuel.

"Brown eyes. I'm so sorry how Guzman treated you" says Alicia leaning on Samuel shoulder.

"It's fine. I'm used to it" says Samuel looking up to Alicia.

"Why are you playing my sister? Just the other day you tried to kiss me and you told me you liked me" says Alicia confused.

"We aren't really dating. I like her but I think she's using me to piss off your parents" says Samuel.

"Be careful, Brown eyes. I love my sister with all my heart. But you're not her type. She always goes for bad boys thinking they care for her. They don't. Pablo the older guy the one she told you about. He tried to get me to sleep with him when I was drunk but Carla and Lu saved me. It's why Rina and I aren't really close anymore. She blamed me saying I was trying to get him to leave her. I always hated him and he forced himself onto my little sister. She didn't even know she was been manipulated. Now tell me something else " says Alicia sniffling.

" Can I tell you a secret?" asks Samuel.

"Sure" says Alicia as she sits herself down.

"I really like you. You're nice, Cool, pretty and you always know how to make me funny in the weirdest ways" says Samuel.

"Can I kiss you?" asks Samuel.

"Ok" says Alicia as she looks into Samuel's brown eyes.

She wanted to forget about Carla, her parents, Rina and everything else. The alcohol was just starting to work and maybe kissing somebody will help.

Samuel holds Alicia face as he kisses her as if she was made of glass. At first the kiss was soft and gentle. Alicia moved away smiling softly at Samuel.

"Brown eyes you're a pretty good kisser. Was this how you imagined we'd kiss. Was I terrible" asks Alicia smirking at him.

"You weren't. It wasn't exactly how I imagined but better" say Samuel as he leans in to kiss her again.

When Alicia's phone rings.

"Oh I have to go, Brown eyes. My mom's waiting for me" says Alicia standing up and holding her hand out for Samuel to take.

School /the boys locker room 

"Guzman. He's your best friend no matter what. Remember that. Just because he didn't tell you doesn't mean he never wanted you to find out" whispers Alicia.

Moving towards Ander. She hugs him and she says" I'm proud you found someone you really like". Before leaving the locker room for them to talk.

Interview with detective

"Can you tell me what happened with Pablo? About the fight" asks the detective.

"Guzman was furious he found out about Pablo sleeping with Marina and giving her HIV. He also found out why Mariana and I weren't as close anymore. Pablo tried to force himself onto me and thank god Carla and Lu were there to safe me. I was so angry at my parents for paying Pablo off. He should have went to jail for what he did" says Alicia looking away from the detective.

"Do you think your brother got mad at Mariana and killed her" asks the detective cautiously.

"What. Of course not. He loves Marina. But Guzman has never laid a hand on Marina or me. Ever. So I don't know why you keep asking. Now I'm not answering any more questions about Guzman" says Alicia angry.
