In My Daughter's Eyes

    Tears filled the eyes of everyone in the room as Donald Cragen and Olivia Cragen-Stabler took over the dance floor for the father daughter dance. The melodic voice of Martina McBride filled the room as they swayed along.
In my daughter's eyes, I am a hero. I am strong and wise, and I know no fear, but the truth is plain to see. She was sent to rescue me. I see who I want to be in my daughter's eyes.
"I knew you were my daughter the moment you walked into the squad room. Watching you grow into the confident and compassionate woman you are today has been my biggest honor."
In my daughter's eyes everyone is equal. Darkness turns to light, and the world is at peace. This miracle God gave to me gives me strength when I am weak. I find reason to believe in my daughter's eyes.
"When Elliot proposed to me, I just knew that you would be giving me away to him. You are the parent I never had. Mom always said I didn't deserve anything good in this world, but here you are giving me the world. Money can't buy happiness. Having a dad as amazing as you are does." She proceeded to wrap her hand around his finger as the next verse played.
And when she wraps her hand around my finger. How it puts a smile in my heart.
Everything becomes a little clearer. I realize what life is all about. It's hanging on when your heart has had enough. It's giving more when you feel like giving up. I've seen the light. It's in my daughter's eyes.
"You are my whole world Livvy bear. My daughter and best friend all rolled into one. I'm so proud of you baby. I can't wait to see what the future brings for you and my son in law."
In my daughter's eyes, I can see the future, a reflection of who I am and what will be. And though she'll grow and someday leave. Maybe raise a family. When I'm gone I hope you'll see
how happy she made me. For I'll be there
in my daughter's eyes.
"What if I told you that the future includes twin grandchildren. Elliot and I are expecting twins. Donald Elliot Cragen-Stabler and Eileen Amanda Cragen-Stabler are being born on your birthday."
Tears flowed down his face as he kissed his daughter's cheek. "That makes me the happiest dad in the world."
