"Yo Robin, you got any plans for after work?" Adam's voice snapped me out of my daze, and I sat up in my office chair. I've been thinking about Maria all week, and it's been consuming most of my time these days. She's such a perfect woman. . .though I've never actually seen her. I like to imagine she's as beautiful as the ladies in those fashion magazines.
I pulled myself out of my thoughts to answer Adam before the silence got too uncomfortable. "Uh yeah, sorry man. I gotta meet my sister at the café." That was a total lie. After work, I usually walk to Vine View Cemetery to see my beloved Maria. Tonight would be a big night for us, and I have to go by myself for it.
"You always have something to do man! Why don't you ever have spare time?" Adam sounded impatient now, so I decided to twist the truth. It couldn't be too bad since it was partially true, right?
"Actually I do have a little bit of spare time, but I usually spend it all on my--" I paused as I gingerly chose the correct words so Adam didn't run off, "--girlfriend. She's long-distance so the drives usually take a few hours."
He nodded, seeming content with my reply. "My bad, sorry. What's her name? Is she hot?"
I hesitantly laughed, spinning over to Adam's work area in my chair to playfully smack his arm. "Of course she's hot, and her name is Maria," I stated proudly. At least that part was true. I wasn't about to tell him my alleged girlfriend was actually a corpse whose tombstone I found in Vine View.
