"Ah, so you've already met! Good!" Ariel exclaims. But, what she didn't know was that Hunter actually caused Ella all the humiliation.
"Oh we've met alright." Hunter said, smirking. Ella blushed a crimson and quickly turned away to look back at the table. It suddenly became so much more interesting than it already had been.
The air was awkward and no one dared to speak. Everyone simply ate their lunch, while the rest of the cafeteria chatted away.
Ella was still trying to comprehend the fact that Hunter was Ariel's older brother. The same boy that was threatening the principal...wait. Ella thought and thought through who his sister would be and never came up with Ariel. What had happened between the principal and Ariel? There was so much information that she didn't know.
Someone cleared their throat and Ella looked up to the direction. Ariel was waiting their, staring at Ella expectantly.
"What?" Ella asked, adverting her gaze to the linoleum floor.
"Sooo, how did you two meet?" She said in a 'duh' tone. It was like she was interrogating a couple. Geez.
Ella was quick to reply with a cover story. She really didn't want Hunter to get in trouble with his sister.
"Well, um, I accidentally ran into-"
"Ella. Your lying." Hunter said with a wide grin. Did he really not see that she was trying to protect him from the potential wrath of his overly-curious sister?
"Okay, since Ella doesn't seem to speak the noble language of Honesty, I'll tell this little tale." Hunter said cockily. Ella merely rolled her eyes and kept her gaze fixed in the floor.
"Ahem" He cleared his throat, "This girl ran into me, on purpose, and then knocked all my heavy, old books onto the floor. Leaving me to clean then up, all alone in the crowded hallways, poor and defenseless." He finished with a smirk and a amused grin in the corners of his eyes. Ella was totally flustered and Ariel looked very confused.
"What?" Ariel asked. Of course, she could never believe that Ella would do such a thing. Even though it was only Ella's first day, pretty much everyone could tell that she didn't talk much, nor know how to be rude in her own intentions.
"I-no, no, no. That's-oh dear." She stuttered, placing her head in between her hands. When she heard the unfamiliar laugh of the revolting boy next to her, she looked up to see the rest chuckling also.
"Don' worry, hun'" Ariel exclaimed, "We know he's lying."
Ella let out a heavy breath of relief. She thought that she had just lost her first ,and only, friends. Once her always-growing blush had subsided, she stood up, catching everyone at the tables attention.
"May I be excused?" She inquired politely.
"What?" Piper asked, almost in disbelief.
"May I be excused from this delightful lunch? I would like some air." She answers simply, looking around at everyone. They all looked at her with confused expressions written on their faces. What had she done? That was the polite thing to ask, right?
"Uh... sure." Reagan replied unsure as to what to say. Ella nodded and began walking towards the metal doors, silently thanking the Lord for letting her escape all the embarrassment that was sure to come. Although Hunter had just made a fool out of her, she new that something else would come up and- once again- it would end with her face deciding to turn into a tomato. She very much dislikes when this happens.
She ended up going outside the school where she could walk around, in the cool air breeze, and not be disturbed.
Even though Ella hadn't been through that much during the day, she still felt exhausted. In her mind, she had accomplished very many things. She had made 4 new friends- even Hunter, 'cause she considered everyone a friend- and she had finally been to school.
Over all, that day had been a total success.
If only she could have kept that positive attitude through the rest of the day.
