As she watched the orb shrink back into its original smaller form, Jade wanted nothing more than to crawl into a hole and die. Nothing could have prepared her for the brutality of that horrid memory. Her family being ripped from her. Her parents were murdered. She knew without a shadow of a doubt that they would have been so happy together, and he had taken it all from them. Anger, the likes of which she had never felt before blossomed within her until she was ready to explode with her rage. She was seething with a fury so intense it threatened to consume her. Her hatred ran so deep, that if she could breathe fire at that moment the whole world would have been aflame with her wrath.
Suddenly she could feel that smoldering pain shoot through her again as her blood began to boil. But she welcomed the pain this time. The physical pain was nothing compared to her mental anguish. This pain she could manage; this pain she could control. She focused on it until it was all she knew. Everything else disappeared and she could feel it start to take root within her. It was a part of her, this power that has always been within her, lurking below the surface waiting for her to unleash it. It was hers, she controlled it, not the other way around. She commanded, and it obeyed.
Dark storm clouds started forming and swirling around the room with winds traveling at such rapid speeds that they were causing items to topple off of shelves and shatter on the floor. Rain started beating down on everyone in the room, drenching them; Everyone except Jade that was, she was safely cocooned within a skin-like barrier of electric energy at the center of the storm. Jade thought it was strange at first, but then she realized that she was causing this, she was the storm. She looked around the room and could see the varying looks of fear from Blake and her Grandmother, and what appeared to be a look of intense concern from Alec and she became self-aware. She was doing this, and she needed to stop, she had already taken this too far. She focused on pulling the magic back to her and just like that the storm was over. She couldn't help but think how strange it was that it had been so easy. She could feel her magic's current as if it was a physical thing. How she had never felt it within her before was beyond her, it was so clear and evident to her now. Almost like it was an extension of her as if it was another limb.
Jade took a ragged breath and struggled to speak, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean for that to happen, my emotions took over and I just kind of lost it for a second."
Alec leaned forward in his chair and covered her hand with his. "It is ok Drakaina, you have every right to lose it for a second after having to endure what you just witnessed. Besides I can handle a little rain," he said his eyes warm with reassurance and something else Jade couldn't quite identify. But the look he was giving her caused her heart to start racing and she found herself struggling to take a breath. She couldn't help but think at that moment about how much she wanted him to wrap his arms around her and hold her close. She was startled at her intense feelings for him. He was a stranger to her after all. But she instinctively knew she could trust him. Knowing that her father had trusted him helped further her resolve to put her faith and trust in him. This is the man my Father had said would protect me, and looking into his eyes she knew that he would.
"Is that the first time something like that has happened?" he questioned. "Yes, that was the first time I have been able to take control of it. It's like the magic was trapped where I couldn't reach it before and now the barrier is gone and it is free for me to control." She explained.
"You must have broken through what little remained of the suppression spell I cast to contain your magic. It was bound to happen sooner or later Jade." Her Grandmother offered the explanation. "Now you must learn to conquer your magic and wield it safely. If not properly used it could be very dangerous not only to you but to those around you. Your magic is beyond powerful and you will need to find an outlet for it because if it is not used enough you will suffer the ill effects of severance backlash which could ultimately prove to be fatal."
