It looked almost too perfect, like starring at a masterpiece of a painting hung up in an art exhibit or adorning some rich person's wall.
Y/N was standing some one hundred yards from the front doors of the Hall of Justice, flanked on either side by manicured lawns that matched most of the young man's green armor. His black combat boots sounding against the concrete walkway as he sauntered over to a bench that was off to the side and halfway between the hall and the front of the property.
There was always a crowd of tourists gathered around the hall, family and friends taking pictures and exploring what many saw as the Justice League's main headquarters, knowing nothing of the orbiting space station that kept watch over the globe. When Y/N had been told about the Watchtower he took it as just a joke, until he saw it first hand and almost broke his jaw with how fast it dropped to the floor.
"Come on! We're almost there!" A child had shouted, dragging both of his parents along towards the front of the hall, passing by Y/N and his bench but like everyone else they seemed to ignore him. Was everyone so used to superheroes that they could walk right by them as if it was an everyday occurrence?
"Slow down there sport, the hall isn't going anywhere" The boy's father had stated, but it fell on deaf ears as the kid continued to pull his folks along, earning a chuckle from the father, a sigh form the mother and a tiny smile from Y/N beneath his helmet.
But even hidden the smile didn't last long, as seeing the family smiling and laughing together sent Y/N retreating back into his mind, worrying and fearing about his own parents. He knew they'd were alive and well, but they were still living in Gotham. The most dangerous place on earth as far as he was concerned, even with the Batman and all of his allies working around the clock it was still far from safe.
As the parents were dragged away by their excited son they were replaced by phantoms of his own his mother, father and brother. He knew they weren't real, but he starred all the same. Feeling his heart beating faster and faster as he began to think about what could be instead of what was.
"Todays the day. You excited?"
And as quickly as the mirage and the worry came they were gone, replaced by a short lived panic as Y/N jumped at the sudden voice on his left and turned to face the man who'd somehow managed to not only walk up to but silently sit down in the other side of the bench from him.
"Christ, it's the middle of the day and you're wearing all black. How the hell do you sneak up on people like that?" He asked as he breathed out a sigh of relief, looking over at the man who had saved him on the worst day of his life with nothing but admiration and respect. Batman chuckled in response.
"Years of practice. Nice outfit by the way, looks practical" Batman leaned back and smiled, seemingly unfazed as the hot sun beat down on them. "You think of a codename yet? They'll probably ask for one once everyone else shows up"
"We'll since The Batman is taken I was thinking Sedat. Short for Sedation you know? Since my gas just puts people to sleep"
"Sedat is also a popular Turkish name"
Under his helmet Y/N rolled his eyes and let out an exaggerated sigh. "Course you'd know that. Smartass. But yeah, how could I be excited? I finely have a chance to join the League"
Before the caped crusader could say anything else Y/N watched as the Boy Wonder walked over, a smile on his face as Y/N rose to greet him. "Long time no see, how ya been?" He asked as they shook hands.
