I wrote this way before Dabi's identity, and Hawk's past, were revealed, so any inaccuracies are on me! This DOES contain spoilers still since I guessed some things right lmfao

Chapter 1:

Footsteps. Heavy shoes slamming against the wooden floor. Too loud to be Natsu. Too loud to be Shoto, or Fuyumi. Too spaced out- that meant tall. That meant dad. Fear sparked within wide blue eyes.

"Touya? Where did that shit go-" Shaking. Terrified pants of breath. Maybe if he ignored him he'd go away. Maybe if he stayed still long enough, he'd get tired and go away-

He held his breath when the noise got louder, insistent. Touya held his hands above his head, mouthing prayers to whoever would listen. He always wondered if he'd done something awful, for them to ignore him each time.

----------------------------------------------

Heavy feet slamming against the pavement, accompanying a lighter pair of fluttering feathers. There they were back on the streets, kicked out yet another motel for...what was it that father had called it, a violence felony?

Father's frown was set deep within his face and brows, not once today had he flashed a smile or a word of praise at his son for better controlling his feathers, pocketing possessions from passerbyes so they can get by. Keigo didnt mind at all, though. In fact, as long as a calloused hand didnt leave a bright red sting on his face, his back, anywhere it could reach- Keigo was quite content.

Or he would be, if he didn't have to return to the utter despair in his mother's gaze.

Keigo could always handle anger. He knew father didn't mean it, he knew father was just frustrated and letting it out on him, anger didn't send him into a spiral of guilt and fear, absolute terror at turning out just like him. He could always handle anger.

But the dissapointment and terror in his mother's gaze, everytime she looked at him like he too would raise a hand at her and strike- Keigo could never handle that.

---------------------------------------

Keigo's father startled, for just  a moment.
His hand felt light, and upon glancing down he'd realized Keigo had...run off somewhere-

Keigo was...looking at the T.V, as any normal child would when their favorite hero appeared, and his father couldn't find it within himself to throw a tantrum this time.

Keigo's eyes drunk in every detail of the electronic screen before him, marvelling at just how real Endeavour seemed. He'd only ever seen him in dirty newspaper pictures! This...this was a whole other level, he could finally know his uniform's colors, he could finally see that shade of red for himself!

"Gross."
Keigo's head turned abruptly, about to give this guy a piece of his mind for insulting his hero-

He halted- this kid...this kid looked miserable- black eye, shabbed up hair, burn scars all over-
Hawk's weakness had always been empathy, in his point of view at least, because the guilt that consumed him before he finished the job was what truly kept him from becoming the weapon they've always wanted,
Empathy was Keigo's strength.

"Are you..are you okay?"
His small palm lifted from the glass, reaching out to...he wasn't quite sure, comfort this poor child? Pat his cheek, perhaps, assess the damage or something smart a hero would've done- but the kid backed up, wincing, frowning for just a moment, but then his face shifted back to that scowl.
