The next afternoon, Delilah was sitting at lunch with Alice.
"So, who are you dressed up as today?" Alice asked.
"Boo from Monsters Inc." Delilah answered.
"Doesn't Boo have pigtails?" Alice asked.
"Yes, but I can't put my hair up." Delilah replied.
"Do you want me to do it?" Alice asked.
"Yes please." Delilah said.
Alice started to put Delilah's hair into two pigtails. "Delilah, would you be opposed to me applying a little bit of makeup on you?" She asked.
"I don't know." Delilah said.
"Have you ever worn makeup before?" Alice asked.
"No." Delilah said. "Do you think I need makeup?"
"Not at all. You're beautiful." Alice said. "I just think you would cute with a little bit of makeup. Plus, I love doing makeup."
"Sure." Delilah said.
"Are you sure?" Alice asked. "You don't have to if you don't want to. I just wanted to ask."
"Yes, I'm sure." Delilah said. "I've kind of always wanted to wear makeup, but didn't have the courage to."
"Alright." Alice said, getting her makeup bag out.
"I promise I won't put a lot on." "I apologize in advance if I move too much while you're putting makeup on me." Delilah said. "I tend to have a hard time staying still."
"That's okay." Alice said. She started applying makeup on Delilah.
"Alice, can I ask you something?" Delilah asked.
"Of course." Alice said.
"How did you know what happened yesterday?" Delilah asked. "Jasper's the one in gym with me, but your Dad said you told him what happened and brought me to the hospital."
"Jasper thought you would be more comfortable with someone you knew, as opposed to someone you didn't know well, in case you woke up before arriving at the hospital." Alice explained.
"Oh. Ok." Delilah said.
"How are you feeling by the way?" Alice asked.
"Better." Delilah answered.
"That's good to hear." Alice said.
After school, Delilah and Charlie were in a conference room with the vice principal, Lauren, and Delilah's case manager, Jennifer. They had asked Charlie to come after school to have a meeting with him to discuss Delilah's progress in school.
"So, what did you want to discuss about Delilah?" Charlie asked.
"We're concerned with her progress in school so far." Jennifer said.
"How so?" Charlie asked.
"We're a month into the school year and Delilah's teachers have noticed that she's struggling." Jennifer explained. "We understand that transitioning from middle to high school can be difficult for anyone, not just someone like Delilah."
"Is she not doing well on the assignments?" Charlie asked.
"No. She's turning the assignments in. And it's great that she's comes into to school early and asks for any help she needs, but we think she needs a little bit more help." Jennifer explained. "It's mostly the tests and quizzes she's not doing well on."
"So, how can we help her?" Charlie asked.
"Maybe getting her a tutor or getting more help after school." Jennifer replied.
"The two of you can discuss and decide what's best for Delilah."
"Well, thank you." Charlie said.
"Of course." Jennifer said.
Charlie and Delilah headed out of the room and walked outside.
"I'm sorry, Dad." Delilah said.
"No one's upset with you, Delilah." Charlie said. "We're just trying to help you." Delilah nodded. "I love you, sweetheart." Charlie said, kissing her on the top of the head.
"I love you too, Daddy." Delilah said.
"Hi Delilah." They heard someone say. They turned around to see Alice Cullen.
"Hi Alice." Delilah said.
"So, you're Alice." Charlie said.
"Yes sir. I'm Alice Cullen." Alice said. "It's nice to finally meet you, Chief Swan."
"And you, as well." Charlie said. "I've heard from Delilah that you have been sitting with her at lunch and I want to thank you for that."
"Of course." Alice said. "I love sitting with Delilah." Alice said.
"I also want to thank you for making sure Delilah was ok yesterday." Charlie said.
"I'm just glad to see she's ok." Alice said. "Though, you don't look too happy right now."
"Delilah's just a little upset." Charlie replied.
"What's wrong?" Alice asked.
"She's struggling with her schoolwork and I think she's a little embarrassed by that." Charlie explained.
"If she's having trouble, I'd be more than happy to help her." Alice offered. "I do very well in school and even if there's something I can't help her with, my siblings would be more than happy to help her as well."
"I think that would be very helpful and we would both appreciate that." Charlie said. "Thank you, Alice."
"You're welcome." Alice said. "I'll see you tomorrow, Delilah." Delilah waved to Alice. Alice walked off and Charlie looked at Delilah.
"Let's head home." He said. Delilah nodded and followed him to the cruiser.
