A gentle murmur from somewhere in the dorm, a member or two still loitering about, lingering together as though unwilling to allow their day off to come to an end before the sun of a new morning rose; and Jangjun was quiet - shockingly enough, he could hear one of the others quip in his head - impossibly still, warm. Just like the air in the room.
The erratic melody of rain tapping against glass, the walls, the road, abruptly disturbed by scarce cars that tore through puddles was all that embraced the humid, early winter air. Humid, still, and warm. Perhaps a bit stuffy, a tad too heavy, but Jangjun made no move to open the door onto the hallway to create some sort of draft nor did he move to rid himself of his tracksuit.
He couldn't, wouldn't, not when Donghyun had curled up against him and slept like a tired out puppy on his arm, slow breaths bringing their bodies to briefly press together only to part once more. The younger felt incredibly small against his chest: knees tucked into his torso, back of his head nestled into the spot between Jangjun's numbing arm and hot neck - he smelt of a sweet shampoo he whinged about other members sneakily using and vaguely, always, of himself. It was an indescribable scent, akin to honey and delicate like flower petals, natural and pure and inebriating.
Jangjun tentatively burrowed his nose into the crook behind Donghyun's ear, travelling along his hairline to reach the nape of his neck. He was right, the smell of the other was dizzying, his mind whirring with cotton clouds and spinning fallen leaves.
It had been Jangjun to invite himself over into a previously-awake-but-evidently-drowsy Donghyun's bed, just about an hour before, and he'd coiled around the petite dancer to squeeze him playfully in his arms when he did.
"Stop," Donghyun had drawled in an almost petulant tone once he was forced to drop his phone and lay down, the other's leg being thrown over his own to hold him in place. Jangjun knew that had the dancer not been so sleepy he'd have been wriggling out of his grip like a fish freshly dropped into a bucket, so he wasn't surprised - though infinitely grateful - to hear Donghyun merely sigh in defeat and gradually fall into ease instead.
Jangjun could feel the lithe frame against him rid itself of tension as Donghyun slipped in and out of consciousness, and though the peace they found themselves in also tried to drag the former down into a sleepy abyss, Jangjun resisted. For the sake of gazing upon Donghyun as he slept, for the sake of being able to relish in the little sounds he produced in his sleep and the feel of his soft skin under his touch.
It had been half an hour, Jangjun was still watching over Donghyun, adjusting his arm so it cradled the younger's head better and holding his breath whenever the dusty blond moved too sharply in case he could wake. Then he allowed his lips to curl and eyes to glimmer with a fondness so dense that it could be crushing for anyone else to bear witness to.
His palm swept over the dip in Donghyun's waist, massaged little circles over his hips, tucked short strands of hair behind the dancer's ear - his little dancer, he thought, enamoured.
And then another half hour had passed and he was still there, still inhaling Donghyun's soft scent, still caressing his gentle frame, still looking upon him adoringly. He'd lost all feeling in his right arm but it truly didn't matter because Donghyun seemed to find it more comfortable than his proper pillow and Jangjun was happy to be of service.
Perhaps it was the atmospheric rain dotted by distant thunder, the nullifying silence of the dorm as he heard a bedroom door fall shut and the whispering cease into nothing, but Jangjun felt his lungs swell and swell, pushing and squashing his heart, threatening to shatter past his ribs just to be able to keep breathing the same air as Donghyun.
It was nearly four in the morning, he was overly sentimental, and he decided to reach for Donghyun's long discarded phone to snap a picture of them together, of the boy peaceful and safe against him. Setting his sight on the grainy result displayed on the phone screen, Jangjun held his breath.
He wanted to keep the photo forever, stitch it behind his eyelids so it could accompany him whenever he felt the younger's absence, whenever he felt alone.
Suddenly Donghyun was squirming, turning over, muffled, nonsensical words pouring past his pouted lips as Jangjun watched, still, as the boy somehow made himself even smaller, pulling his arms close to his chest and between them both whilst burying his face just under Jangjun's collarbones. Donghyun fixed himself for another minute, feet slipping between Jangjun's thighs for warmth, thin fingers clutching at Jangjun's tracksuit top, parted lips open just enough for his little puffs of breath to tickle at Jangjun's bare skin.
Deeming it safe enough to move, Jangjun glanced down at the male balled into his chest and smiled at the sight of puffy cheeks and sleep-tousled, ash blond hair that whisped over the smaller's head like a sea of gold.
Jangjun breathed, tranquil, genuine, free, and then he was bringing his numb arm up to brace the back of Donghyun's head, lowering his fingers to soothingly card through and twirl the soft tufts of hair around them. Setting aside the latter's phone he draped his second arm over Donghyun's waist, palm splaying across his back, giving a tender rub before pulling the boy closer, deeper into his hold.
Donghyun hummed, content, and Jangjun smiled, in love.
