Jae meets me after school at the gates, looking pretty ticked off because I'm ten minutes late from detention. Again. Jae was my older brother by one year, a senior, and we'd usually walk home together after school. Since it's the beginning of the school year I know he would wait for me, but I'm almost positive as the year goes on I'll just be left to walk alone, because no ones more impatient than Jae.
Jae and Jungkook had been friends since childhood. Both had joined a football club at a young age and since then they were closer than real brothers. Both had made the football team in highschool making them even closer. Sometimes they'd come back to ours after practise and sit for a good few hours in the living room playing video games.
I hate Jungkook, but I had to admit their relationship was something special.
For some reason when I get home my bag feels heavier than usual, and when I tip the contents out onto my bag, I find the book Jungkook had thrown to me on the first day of school.
Has no one ever told him to not go in a girls bag?
Seriously, the guy just doesn't give up.
I don't feel the need to put it in the bin, and instead I put it into an old box, pushing it all the way to the back of the wardrobe. I had no intention to read it, nor was I bothered to. But one day when I decide to, I'll get back at him.
"Yena, put the plates down!" Jae says, from the room opposite hers.
"Do it yourself!" I shout back.
"You want to tell Mum why you were late for school?"
He did that on purpose.
"For flips sake–"
"Kim Yena! Get down!"
Jae puts his head round the door, grin on his face.
"You deserved that."
"I'm gonna kill you." I say, before jumping off the bed, but Jae has already made it down the stairs and I stumble over Coco, just as my mum makes her way to the living room.
I enter the kitchen silently, putting down the plates and cups in hope that I'll be left off.
It's silent as we sit down, Coco who runs onto Jae's lap as he scoffs down food. I do too, but the ramen is so hot that I'm forced to spit it back out, and Jae looks at me in disgust.
"Has no one ever taught you how to eat?"
"Has no one ever taught you how to shut up?" I say back.
"Why were you late? Was it a detention? Because if you keep doing this, you can walk home yourself." I actually didn't mind that, I never knew why mum was so adamant that we walk home together.
"I don't mind that."
"Same, she's always late."
"Was it a detention?"
"It was Jungkook."
"Three times in two weeks, and it's always Jungkook?"
"Well yeah–"
"And what about him, any detentions from him?"
"No well–" It was true, Jungkook was always the one pissing me off but because of his calm reactions, it was always me with the detentions.
"The boy likes you." At this, both me and Jae simultaneously gag, literally. It's the second time that I want to spit out my food.
"He's a clever boy too. Would do you good if you start hanging out with him, instead of arguing. Maybe your grades would go up too."
