Miori Pov

I watched as the slender, dark figure emerged from the flames. I listened to its soft cries. I started to go towards it as it walked towards me. I felt the heat burn my skin, I didn't care. We were standing right in front of each other, it had no face. My heart was racing; it felt like it could rip through my chest at any moment. The fire kept hitting my skin, I felt like I was melting. This was partially true, as once I looked down at myself, I saw that my skin had started peeling. The things' soft cries had turned into loud, shrill shrieks. I reached out my hand to it. I couldn't call it a monster, for it was I who did this to him, I created him and all this destruction, yes it was all my fault. It grabbed my arm, I winced as its sharp claw dug into my already burning flesh. It pulled me closer and engulfed me in a hug. It held me tight, trying to suffocate me. Its claws were ripping into my back. "It should've been you," it whispered in my ear, mimicking a voice that was all too familiar. "I know...".

"MIORI!" someone yelled in my ear. I quickly jumped up, wide awake. I lifted my head from the desk to see my teacher, Ms. Glendale, glaring at me. "Sorry" I signed. "The bell rang 30 minutes ago," she replied. I nodded and started to pack up my stuff. "Look, I know my class isn't the most interesting, if it was up to me, I would be teaching conjuration instead of math but this is your future so please try to stay awake and focus," she said softly as I was getting up to leave. I nodded again and gave her a small wave as I left. She smiled and waved back.

See, this is what I like about Ms. Glendale. Any other teacher would've given me detention for a week.

"Ms. Ito-Brown, you're late. I guess that's Saturday detention for you," Mr. Alman, said, the moment I stepped into his classroom. Damnit. I gave him a disgruntled thumbs up and went to the back of the class where my best friend of all time was.

"Sup bitch," she said quietly as I sat down beside her. Oh Emma, one of a kind. I smiled and flashed her a middle finger as I sat down. "Emma and Miori, quiet down so I can assign your partners for the projects," Mr. Alman said. "Sorry," Emma said and I nodded along. "What project?" I signed as Mr. Alman turned away from us. "You missed it, I'll explain later," she whispered.

"The projects will be done in groups of thr- Mrs. Maximus-Vesta, you're late" Mr. Alman said as Maia Maximus walked into the room. "I'm sorry, it won't happen again," she said in a kind of monotone voice. She looked weird. She wasn't holding herself up with the "I'm better than you" confidence like she usually does. Right now she was messy and looked kind of numb, like the world could fall apart in front of her eyes and she wouldn't even care.

"What do you think's up with her?" Emma asked quietly, and I shrugged. "Well, don't just stand there, take a seat," Mr. Alman said. Maia nodded and went to sit in the front row like always. "Of course you get detention and she doesn't" Emma mumbled and rolled her eyes. It was expected, of course. It's no secret that Maia was pretty much the favourite student of all the Wix teachers in the school. I mean, I get it; she's a great witch; she's respectful, gets good grades, helps out the teachers; she's the student every teacher wishes they had. She's also a no fun cocky bitch who looks down on her peers, but she's smart enough to know to not let any teacher see her doing that.

"As I was saying, this project will be done in groups of three, and you guys have two weeks to finish and present the project before we move onto the next part of the culminating, If I call on you, you'll come up to my desk, do the picker charm twice on this jar of names, and whoever you get are your partners," Mr. Alman explained.

This is what I hate about charms and conjuration, magic, or in my case, failing at doing magic. You would think being a half-wizard would put you at an advantage when it comes to doing magic, and that would be true if you're anyone but me. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I don't have magic because I do, that's part of the problem. I've always had trouble controlling my magic that it comes to the point where I can't even touch my wand without putting someone or myself in harm's way.
