A few minutes later I realized that this wasn't the way to school.

"Guys" I whispered," Are we going the right way?"

We turned down a dark and deserted alley way. The bus stopped and Jack started eating his fingernails.

" Excuse me, miss" shouted Zoe in her nice girl voice." We would like to go to school. We are running very late and-"

" SILENCE!!!" hissed the old lady driving the bus.

"You shall not be going to school today, young demi-gods!" hissed the other two old ladies and they stood up as well.

Suddenly a screaching filled the air and all three old ladies started to grow. They wriggled and unexpectedly turned into huge, red creatures with talons and wings.

" Furies!!!!" I screamed as I remembered them from my greek mythology textbook.

"RUN!!!!!!" yelled Jack.

We ran for the door but found it locked. I reached for the sapphire necklace around my neck. It was my good luck charm and the only thing I had to remember my mum by. All of a sudden I felt a little button on the back of my necklace. I did the obvious thing. I pressed it. A second later my necklace was gone and in my hand I held a celestrial bronze knife.

"Wow" exclaimed Zoe, " When do I get one?"

" Concentrate!" yelled Jack " These things can kill us, you know!"

I started slashing a the furies and found that I was surprisingly good at it. I could see where they would strike next. I felt like I had been doing it my whole life.

" Thanks mum" I whispered to myself so that no one else could hear. Then I got on with the battle.

Zoe was throwing anything she could find at the furies while, silently, Jack was gnawing at the side of the bus trying to find a way for us to escape. Then I killed my first monster. No, first three monsters.

I stabbed at the furies trying to find their weaknesses. It was impossible and I had almost given up. Then I remembered something Jack had said to me. It hadn't made sense then but it did now.

"OMG!" I stopped fighting and pointed to something behind the furies. They stopped and looked at where I was pointing. I saw my chance. While their backs were turned I stabbed them each in turn. They turned back around and before they knew what had happened, they dissolved into dust. That was the last straw. I had had enough. Everything went black, I had fainted.
