I am currently stood with grandma, Mia and the lady's maids in the throne room when Anthony and Joe walk over. Anthony stands next to me and Joe begins to speak, "Lord Devereaux will be arriving shortly, with his snake of an uncle."
"Just lovely," I whisper into Anthony's ear sarcastically. He laughs quietly turning his head away from everyone so they don't see.
While I'm speaking to Anthony I see grandma and Lionel, someone who is staying with us to learn about security, talking. I don't listen to what they're saying but I have a feeling Joe started it off by complaining that Lionel doesn't leave his side, which is very true.
"The limousine is at the gates, madam" Charlotte tells us, walking into the room. Great, can't wait to meet the man who's trying to steal my throne. Anthony squeezes my shoulder before moving to the side of the room with Joe, who grandma just asked to protect and keep an eye on Lord Devereaux.
"So is this all right to welcome the viscount and his nephew?" Mia asks. She is wearing a nice pink plaid outfit.
"Very appropriate. And pretty" grandma answers.
"You look beautiful Mia" I tell her smiling.
"Thank you, so do you" Mia says, "Oh, I can't believe parliament invited the guy who's trying to steal the throne form Aurora, and thinks he's better because he's a man, to stay here with us at a the palace"
"Oh, no, parliament didn't invite him. I did" Grandma tells us making Mia and I's eyes go wide.
"Wha..."
"I offered to have him hung by his toes in our courtyard" Anthony says, leaning on the wall. It's very clear he also does not want him here.
"Excuse me" grandma says.
"Yeah, no I agree" "It's a very good suggestion" "I say we do it" Joe, Mia and I reply.
"No. If there's any mischief going on, I'd prefer it right under my nose"
"Can't be any mischief if he's hanging by his toes" I say under my breathe but clearly Mia heard me as she laughs.
"I just so don't want to be nice to this guy, you know? I mean, he is rude, he's arrogant, self-centred, he's..." Mia complains while pacing.
"Well, have you met him?" Grandma asks.
"No."
"Neither have I"
"Mia, please just pretend you don't hate him. I already don't want to be dealing with this" I whine.
"Well, like, now, all of a sudden, out of nowhere, he wants to be the king of Genovia? What is that about?" Mia continues.
"Mia, if he want's to play a game, let him. I'll just play it better." I tell her. Out of the corner of my eye I see Anthony smirk, so I turn and wink at him before looking back at Mia.
"Announcing Viscount Mabrey and Lord Devereaux" The older man walks in first with Lord Devereaux behind him. When I see him my eyes widen slightly before I remove any emotion. 'Just Nicholas'.
"Your Majesty. Your Highness" Mabrey greets us respectfully. Oh, so he's only disrespectful behind my back?
"Mabrey" grandma replies, while I merely smile at him.
"Ma'am, may I introduce my nephew, Lord Nicholas Devereaux"
"Nicholas. We are delighted to make your acquaintance" As grandma replies I turn and look at Mia. Seems like she also remembers him from seeing him with me at the party. She looks even angrier then I feel.
"Your Majesty, the pleasure is all mine. And thank you so much for inviting me to stay at the palace"
"May I present my granddaughters Aurora and Mia" Grandma introduces us.
"Oh, grandma no need to introduce me. We already met at the party," I say smiling, "though it was very brief. I'll have to get to know you better during your stay"
"Indeed," Nicholas then turns his attention to Mia, "Your Highness."
"Mia, would you care to welcome our guest?"
"Lord Nicholas," she says almost questioningly before stomping on his foot, making me laugh. I bite my thumb and turn away in an attempt to stop myself.
"Must be a twin thing" Nicholas says while Mia walks away.
"If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go talk to her" I say walking out, still laughing. As I pass Anthony I grab his hand and drag him with me.
Once the two of us our out of their ear shot we both start laughing.
"I love that girl" I say wiping tears from my eyes, "come on we're going to the kitchen"
"Why the kitchen?"
"I know my sister"
When we get down the stairs that lead to the kitchens I see Mia with a pint of ice cream. I grab a spoon before I go and sit next to her, while Anthony stay's at the bottom of the stairs.
"Well that was definitely a first impression" I say smiling and taking a spoon of ice cream.
"Would you care to explain what was going on out there?" grandma says walking in, clearly unimpressed.
"I mean, who dances and flirts with a girl but forgets to mention 'oh yeah I'm a lord and I'm going to steal your crown'" Mia says, defending me.
"I see. Well, as you queen I absolutely cannot condone it. As a grandma, I say, 'right on'" grandma replies making us all smile, "Are you alright?" she asks me.
"Never better. I've just figured out how I'm going to play this game"
"Oh lord. Well, if you'll both come with me, I have something to show you" Mia and I stand up and begin to walk out, "I think you could leave that right there" she tells Mia pointing at the ice cream then the counter.
"Thank you, culinary people"
"We'll be back" I whisper pointing at Mia and I, then the ice cream.
