NINETEEN THIRTY-NINE

"THE UNSUSPECTING LAMB"

Belladonna observed her sister's gaze
on Lucifer, a nickname she had internally given
to the tyrant of a man known as Michael Jackson
due to his mephistophelian behavior. The twinkle
in Indigo's eyes bemused Belladonna greatly; she couldn't understand how anyone could ever take
a liking to such a despicable man as Michael.

Sure, he was blessed with a well-proportioned
visage, a massive amount of wealth, and more
power than one man should ever possess.

However, underneath his charm,
Belladonna knew the real Michael Jackson.

He was a manipulative and condensing autocrat
who used his family's name to get what he wanted, even if he was undeserving. Though Indigo gazed at Michael with unwavering interest, he persistently peered at Belladonna, who hardly piqued his way.

He could never read her as she was such
a complicated woman, an attribute he found
compelling yet insanely maddening.

"I'd like to make an announcement,"
Michael spoke, gaining everyone's attention.

Clement and Josette, the parents of
Belladonna and Indigo shared a glance before
their eyes simultaneously lingered on their youngest daughter Belladonna. What was about to occur would surely ambush an unsuspecting Bella, who knew nothing of her parent's betrayal.

Knowing their free-spirited daughter, they hoped
she wouldn't cause disruption and embarrass them.

"First, I'd like to thank the Evergreen's for inviting
me to celebrate their daughter Belladonna as God has blessed her with another year around the sun."

Belladonna's organs of sight circulated the
entirety of the room until landing on her parents;
the smiles on their faces beamed with delight.

Belladonna had yet to understand why Michael Jackson and his nuclear family decided to come
and celebrate her life.

She assumed they had other important things to do like raise taxes due to their greed, making life more miserable for civilians who were barely making ends meet. "The Jacksons and the Evergreens have been business partners and confidants of one another for such a long time now. Our ties go back to the early eighteen hundreds, such a great deal of history shared that continues to prosper till this day."

Michael paused momentarily as the room filled
with applause from both the Evergreens and Jacksons.

"In efforts to preserve both our extended legacies,
it is with great honor that I have been blessed to receive Belladonna Evergreen's hand in marriage."
