On the very first day of senior year, no one noticed her, but she noticed him. She would take glances at him and what stood out the most was his eyes, his laugh, his godforsaken smile, his hair, and the look in his eyes. She was the only one who noticed him dissociate from the world, he looked like he never wanted to be there, even though he laughed.

It was normally a fake laugh, she noticed right away, she had heard his real laugh and she loved it. Too bad he would never look at her the way she looks at him, but she tried.

She walked up to one of her friends and got the nerve to ask for his Snapchat. She bit her lip to the point of bleeding, she was so nervous, but she added him anyway and waited for him to add her back.

She sat on her bed her leg bouncing up and down in anticipation. She couldn't help it, she was so nervous. With every chime on her phone, she would perk up and get frustrated when it wasn't him.

Eventually, after painfully long hours, she finally got the notification she wanted. She texted him first, wrong move. She was so awkward, asking how his day was, to which he just responded with "meh." She wanted to cry, she never felt so awkward in her life. She put her head in her hands, her hair fell around her in cascades. Her phone dinged again, it was a picture from him.

She perked up immediately and opened it, it was a picture of half his face, he had a small smile on his face. She smiled looking at the photo. She spent almost ten minutes taking a picture until she was satisfied with a half-face picture. He instantly responded, she smiled even more. She never felt happier, she felt calm.

They talked for some time, just sending pictures back and forth and asking questions about each other. He was slowly opening up to her, talking more about himself. She even found out a little about his past.

He told her goodnight and stopped responding to her. She was sad to see him go but she couldn't get that stupid smile off her face, with her stupid teeth. She went to bed shortly after he stopped responding and she couldn't stop her mind from thinking about him, basically all night. Eventually, she fell asleep, he hair put up into a bun, her blanket thrown messily around her. That smile never left her face that night.

He told her goodnight but he never did go to sleep that night, he was up talking to other girls. He only told her that so then she would go to bed. He didn't want to lie to her but he was getting annoyed with all the snaps. She seemed like a good person to him but it wasn't enough. She wasn't pretty, smart, or athletic, she was a nerdy girl that barely anyone knew her name.

He was lying while she was smiling.

She was falling in love with someone who would never love her back.
