"Duncan, wake up!" I feel someone tug my arm and I groan.

"Duncan, wake up now!" I sit up to see Owen standing over me in a panic.

"The girl's gone!"

I lay back down.

"What girl?"

"Get up, Matilda's gone!"

"Who's Matilda?" I blink at Owen, who looks at me annoyed.

"Duncan!

Stop messing around, I'm telling you, the girl's gone!"

"Good."

"What? Don't be an idiot! I'm telling you the girl's disappeared!

I can't find her!"

"Don't worry..." Owen shakes me.

"Duncan, don't be ridiculous! Get up!"

God, he's really started to piss me off, and she still torments me, despite the fact she ain't here.

"Owen, leave me alone! Fuck off!"

"Get up at once, we have to find her!"

"No, we don't!

Let her do whatever she wants! She drove me crazy all yesterday, spent all last night thinking of ways to get rid of her."

"But she's eight! What if something happened to her?"

"Relax, she can take care of herself.

She knows these streets really well." Owen tries to sit me up, and I slap him away. He tries again.

"We have to find your daughter!" Stop calling her that!

I throw the pillow at his face in sheer anger.

"Owen, enough! Shut the fuck up, I am not her father! I will not look for her!"

"Dumbass, if the judge finds out she's missing, you'll go to prison!"

My eyes snap open. Ahh shit...

"Fine! Fine! Fine!

Let's go find that fucking brat!" Owen smiles and hands me my phone. I sit up and the doorbell stops us dead in our tracks... Owen and I look at each other.

"Owen, get the door."

If it's the cops, I'll hide. But it's just the kid.

"She's back, don't worry!" I yawn. I missed sleep for this shit?

She walks in carrying bags.

"Oh, you're finally awake!" Matilda says with a smile. She's in colorful pajamas.

"Kid, where were you?

We were worried."

"Speak for yourself." I toss a pillow at Owen, who caughts it and throws it back, only for it to miss me and hit a lamp, causing it to fall and break.

"Nice, Owen. Break my furniture."

First my freedom, now my crap...

"When I woke up, he was out cold. I tried to wake Da-." She pauses for a second.

"Him up, but he slept like the dead."

I see Owen smile at Matilda.

"And since there's nothing to eat!" She raises her hands, full of bags.
