Red velvet was out giving Chiffon a walk which they did very frequently, the two often returned before 5 pm so Pastry cookie wasn't too worried, she knew they'd return on schedule like they always did so she waited patiently, reading a book to pass the time.
It's ten minutes past five, Pastry cookie shrugs it off, Red velvet's been late a couple times, 30 minutes...Perhaps the two chose to take the longer road home? 50 minutes...and yet there is no sign of the two, Pastry starts to worry, she checks the clock on the wall, then glances to the window, it's very clearly almost dusk, should she go looking for them? Did the two run into an accident? Eventually three soft knocks are heard on the door, pastry cookie puts her book down and opens the door. To her relief it's Red velvet and Chiffon. Finally, Pastry cookie takes her husband's hand and walks him into the house.
"Red! It's almost 6 pm, where were you???"
"Sorry dear, S-sorry I must've lost track of time...."
Pastry cookie observed Red velvet cookie, there was a bit of tiredness to his voice and his body seemed to slouch slightly.
"Don't worry about that Red, I'll prepare dinner for us-"
"No no no wait, Pastry cookie wait, when was the last time we went out together?"
"...."
Pastry cookie was confused by the suddenness of the question but decided to go along with whatever was happening.
"Maybe around 2-3 months, why?"
"O-oh, good, great! I heard there was a new restaurant that opened, I can take you there right now! It's the least I can do to make up for coming home so late..."
Pastry cookie was obviously flattered by this but couldn't help notice the suddenness of the whole thing, nonetheless she did feel excited to go out with Red velvet.
"Alright, I'll get dressed then"
Pastry cookie went upstairs to change, she tied her hair into a low ponytail and put on a casual white dress with matching flats. She walked downstairs to find Red velvet already waiting by the door.
"Aren't you going to change? You've been in that outfit the whole day"
"R-right, you're right..."
Red velvet passed by Pastry cookie quickly to head upstairs. In less than a minute he came back down, still wearing the same pants and shoes only having changed his shirt to a loose black sweater, he also seemed to have tried to neaten his hair slightly but parts of it still stuck out. Red velvet held Pastry cookie's hand and before the two were completely out the door Red velvet looked down to Chiffon.
"Ok boy, me and your mom'll be back soon, promise..."
Chiffon gave a small nod and sat down, the door closed and they were off. Usually the two chatted quite a bit when walking together but in this instance, Red velvet was relatively more quiet than usual only making small comments about the weather or the things they saw as they walked past. Pastry cookie couldn't help but notice Red velvet's grip on her hand was loose and his eyes seemed to droop a bit. At long last they finally made it to the new restaurant. Unfortunately when the two reached the entrance they were met with a disappointing:
"I'm very sorry we're full for tonight"
From the restaurant's host, Pastry cookie was more than willing to go out some other time but Red velvet didn't seem to feel the same.
"Come on, let's try another place"
"Red, why don't we just go home? I'm fine with making dinner tonight"
