Caelyn and Hailey are obsessed with the singer-songwriter, Shawn Mendes. They have been fans of him all the way since he was just a Canadian boy posting six second videos online. Now that he has his own international headlining shows, Caelyn and Hailey are on the hunt to buy meet and greet tickets for his show in Mexico. His tour starts off in Panama, and ends all the way in Japan. Both of the girls are going to attend every show in Central America and Mexico. ROADTRIP!
The journey starts off with a flight to Panama City, Panama. Caelyn and Hailey land at about 3pm, having enough time to get ready and rest at the hotel before Shawn performs at 8pm. They decide to grab a bite to eat, being hungry after the long flight. They found a small cafe, and ate some chicken and rice, a common meal in Panama. At 7pm the girls left for the concert. It was, in a word, amazing. Shawn even sang one of his most popular songs, Life of the Party, in spanish! But, no one was selling m&g (meet and greet), so both crazed fans set off for San Jose, Costa RIca.
Once they reached San Jose, Costa Rica's capital, the girls only had 2 hours until Shawn's second show started. They decided to check out the venue of the concert. This arena was beautiful, to say the least. While all they could see was the outside wall, it was enough to tell that the whole complex would share the same architectural beauty. After Hailey parked the car, Caelyn spotted a coffee shop a small ways down the street. They had heard so much about the coffee here, and how amazing it was, and it was. Once they grabbed about ten bags of the stuff to take home, it was time to hear the voice of their idol. The tropical weather in Costa Rica made the concert even more enjoyable, for it wasn't to hot, or too cold, just perfect. While the concert was so amazing, still no one was selling m&g for Mexico. So their journey continued, headstrong to find m&g. Off to Nicaragua!
Throughout this trip, both Hailey and Caelyn have had one particular issue, both of them took French in high school, not spanish. So once they reached Nicaragua 's capital, Managua, the problem still occurred when they asked for help to find the venue. But once Caelyn showed the spanish speaking woman a banner for Shawn's concert, she understood immediately. They were directed to a small auditorium in the local high school. With only five minutes to spare, they had taken their squeaky, old seats, ready for the show to begin. And with what seemed like a blink of an eye, the concert was over, and still no m&g. They promised each other to never lose hope, so with spirits high, it was off to Honduras.
As Hailey drove through the crime ridden streets, both girls were quite nervous, and just wanted to get to the venue asap. After some hesitant driving, they had finally arrived to the arena. Unlike the others, this arena had a pit, or a large space below the stage with no seating. So basically, it was every girl for themselves. throughout the opening acts of the concert, everyone was constantly being shoved out of the way to get to the front. But once Shawn came on stage, everyone was still. In the middle of the concert, Shawn said how hot it was here. Then out of nowhere, one of the crazed fans threw a water balloon at him. After a few seconds of everyone gasping, Shawn said, "Oh now it's on." Needless to say, everyone, including Shawn, left the concert drenched. But one thing Hailey and Caelyn didn't leave with, was m&g for Mexico. Caelyn tried to stay positive, telling hailey they still have two shows left to find them. And with that, the two ladies, who look like they just took a shower with their clothes on, packed up and set off for San Salvador, El Salvador.
This country was so amazing. All of the tropical plants were so beautiful this time of year. While Caelyn took tons of photos on both her and Hailey's phones, Hailey drove to the central square of the country's capital, San Salvador. They both could already see people were setting up the stage for Shawn. All of the sudden, Caelyn's phone lit up. It was a direct message (dm) from someone on Twitter. This message was very important, it was from someone who was selling m&g for Mexico. This message was a group chat to five people, who ever responded, got the tickets. Immediately, Caelyn responded, but just one second too late. Another girl had already responded. both girls were devastated as they entered the concert, knowing that they would never be able to meet the goofball that was before them.The concert made them feel a little better, but that one thought kept lingering the back of each girl's mind. Once the show had finished, both girls sulked to the car, ready to drive once again for hours to watch a canadian boy play a guitar.
The traffic getting into Guatemala was insane. It took nearly an hour to go across the border. Now being so far behind schedule, Hailey was speeding so fast to make to Guatemala city, she was sure they were going to be pulled over. After safely making it to the arena, the show had already started. Lucky, Shawn was only on his second song. After receiving elbows to the face, kicking, and lots of hair pulling, they had made it to the front. While so many sweaty bodies in the un air conditioned building were being pulled to the back, Hailey and Caelyn stayed put. The tropical heat of Guatemala made everyone so sticky. Once the concert had finished, it was all worth it, the injuries, the cost of the tickets, not being able to breath from the pressure of hundreds of people pushing you against the barriers, it was all worth it to see this muffin-lovin', Harry Potter nerd, live.
In Belize, it was not very easy to find fast American food. There was no McDonalds, no Starbucks, and no burger king. Both girls were starving by the time they arrived in Belmopan, the country's capital. After eating it was off to see the amazing boy once again. Unlike the previous shows, today Shawn sang one of his brand new songs, Strings. A large part of this song was rapping, and the girls were ready. Whilst screaming the lyrics to the rap, they noticed that they were the only people at the entire show who knew it, Shawn noticed too. He must have looked at them at least four times throughout the show. The feeling was amazing. With smiles permanently spread on their faces, they pulled out of the parking lot and started the long drive to Mexico City, Mexico.
This was it, the last both girls would see of Shawn for a long time. It was sad knowing they wouldn't be able to meet him, but this entire trip was the most amazing experience, and they couldn't ask for more. This show was by far the biggest, the arena in Mexico City alone holding over 10 thousand Mendes Army members. The girls were hungry, and had some time to kill before the show started. They found a small coffee shop a few miles from the venue. Hailey went to order two muffins and two coffees for her and Caelyn. After she sat down with their order, the girls ate and scrolled through their phones in silence. A small bell rang signalling someone had entered the shop the girls didn't bother looking at the door. just as caelyn looked up from her twitter feed to tell Hailey something, something else caught her gaze. The customer at the counter was wearing the same maroon "Obey" hoodie that Caelyn was, with the hood. Upon a closer look, this mysterious person was almost matching caelyn completely with black denim skinny jeans, and Birkenstock sandals. After motioning for Hailey to take a look, Caelyn decided to go complement this person, on their obvious great taste in clothing. Once she tapped on the person's shoulder, they turned around, Caelyn's breath was caught in her throat.
