1976, 27 January- Tuesday.

He was able to reach the class before Professor McGonagall. He entered the class, completely unfazed by the talk with Sirius. That wasn't going to ruin his day. Corvus was sat in the middle. The row he was sitting was also close to the back, which he would call 'middle-back'. He was sat at the edge of the row, with Arius Welby on his right- he was sure he wasn't the only one to find him annoying.

Welby was a pureblood, so he had met the boy once or twice before Hogwarts, but Polaris didn't remember much. He just knew he wasn't going to befriend him, only be 'nice' for connections, as he was the Welby heir to the House of Welby, known for their wealth, which they obtain from their trading company, 'The Well-Bys.'

Looking over at Corvus again, he could see he was concentrated, looking down at some book, ah, the book for this class, which he too had in his hand after getting it from his dorm. He smiled mischievously, taking light steps towards Corvus, which gained some amused looks from some of his classmates who saw him walk past them. Then Welby turned around, hearing someone from the row behind him snort, "What's funny." He demanded to know.

Then their eyes locked, and Welby understood what he Ws trying to do. "Scion Avery, it seems Scion Black is trying to scare you." He said hauntingly. Corvus turned immediately and grinned, "Took you long enough to get that book." Corvus told him as the boy swung around on the stool, facing his friend.

"Annoying git," Polaris said under his breath, watching Welby turn back to the boy he was talking to that was on his right.

Corvus suppressed a laugh as he glanced at Welby, knowing who Polaris was referring to, "I have to deal with him every Transfiguration lesson." Corvus whispered in disdain, "here, look, let's go to your desk," Corvus said, getting up from his stool. Welby turned to see Corvus getting up.

"You can't do that," the boy said. Corvus turned to him, "Oh? And why can't I do that, scion Welby? Is there a rule against it that I have yet to learn?" Corvus asked in a condescending tone. Welby scoffed, "Our professor will be here soon. Do what you want. I don't care." Welby responded, looking away.

"Well, you obviously care enough to ask what I was doing, but yes, thank you, scion Welby for giving me 'permission' to do what I want." Corvus drawled. Welby didn't look back. He just continued staring ahead, the tips of his ears reddening at the words. The way he had said 'Welby' was disrespectful, and his tone didn't help at all.

Corvus smirked in victory.

"Interesting." An amused Polaris said to his friend, "Interesting indeed," Corvus responded, "Want to know what else is interesting?" Polaris asked as they headed to his desk, where Rena and Wilson were seated. The rows all fit three students.

"What?" Corvus asked, "You bringing your book with you... you could have just left it at your desk." Polaris said, taking his seat. "It's not the Transfiguration one. It's been charmed to change the cover. It's a book on jinxes." Corvus told him.

"Hey, Polaris, Corvus," Rena said, smiling brightly at them as Polaris sat. Corvus walked around in between the desks and stood in front of them.

"Corvus, Polaris, excited for the quiz?" Wilson greeted them.

"Quiz? We have a quiz?" Corvus said dumbly, then looked to Polaris, "Don't look at me like that! I didn't know either," Polaris defended himself. Polaris shifted his stool backwards to get a better look at his tablemates, "Do you know what it's on?" Polaris asked them. Rena shook her head, "Nope, I was planning on just winging it. What can one bad quiz do?" She replied as she shrugged her shoulders.
