"We got a problem," Butcher's voice sounded ominous in my ear. I was coming back from the store and had pulled over to take his call.

"My man on the inside has gone quiet. I got some of my boys on James, but I'm thinking my man's silence is not a good thing. You at home?"

"No, about five minutes out."

"Get home, make sure things are good there and let me know. I'm calling it. We're close enough that we need to end this now, and I'm letting everyone know. This last week has been fucked up and we can't let it go any longer." I knew what that meant. We had discussed this before, so I knew this year of shit would be ending tonight and Heather and James would be eliminated as threats.

I made it home in two minutes, thankful I was on my Harley and could weave in and out of traffic so fast it's amazing I didn't wreck -- but even those two minutes seemed like a lifetime. My mind was hammering at me, wondering if Garrett was protected, if the various fail safes I'd put into place were working, if there was anything going on, if everything was normal at home, what I'd find when I got there. My boy had to be safe. He had to be.

I almost laid down my bike in my rush to get off of it and inside. I spotted two of my men who had constant eyes and ears on the house and my fear eased somewhat, but I still barreled into the house.

Dale met me at the door. "Garrett's fine. We stopped her when she was trying to sneak him out. Leo got her before she could do anything. Nate's got her detained in her bedroom; Leo's with Garrett. And just to say, your boy can sleep through anything. She was not quiet when we grabbed her."

"She's quiet now."

"Duct tape works wonders."

I popped into my boy's room, where he was sleeping soundly. Leo looked up at me and got to his feet. "He's fine, Gabe. He's OK. She didn't have a chance to drug him and we sure as hell didn't eat the food she kindly provided for us tonight...for the first time ever. Dumbass bitch. Pretended to eat it then we all faked falling asleep. Watched her as she came in here with a syringe. I surprised the hell out of her, probably broke her hand."

I blew out a sigh of relief. "And Breah?"

"Safe and sound. Colt's got her; his last check in was two minutes ago and everything was quiet."

I nodded at him, so relieved it was over words didn't even come close. "Brother, I can't tell you how much --"

Leo shook me off. "We all figured something deep was going on. Hoping you can fill us in on the last year soon."

"I will. I'll tell you everything I can. Just a few more things to do tonight."

Leo nodded. "We got your back, brother."

I walked to Garrett's crib and put my hand on his back, just taking comfort in feeling his little rib cage move with every breath he took.

"The van here?"

"In the back. We called it in when we stopped Heather. It's ready to go."

"Thanks again, Leo."

He nodded and I went off to Heather's room. She was on the floor, her hands zip-tied behind her back and her ankles zip tied. Dale had also hog-tied her using duct tape. I crouched down beside her and she stopped struggling for a minute.

"You made a big mistake, threatening my boy. Ready to go have some fun?"

Having read her future in my eyes, the bitch struggled but we threw her in the back of the van without any problem. We also chained her in place not because we were worried about her escaping, but because it was just one more clue for her that this night was not going to end well.
