The ANZAC Ceremony

Today on the 25th of april, both men and women fought in the war. On Anzac day we pay tribute to the custodians of this land, Noongar and islanders... we shall also pray for Ukrainian soldiers and hope for peace and justice.

The anzac spirit.

Anzac came to stand for the positive qualities which Australians have seen their forces show in war. These qualities are generally accepted to include endurance, courage, ingenuity, good humour, and mateship.

On the morning of 25 April 1915, the Anzacs set out to capture the Gallipoli peninsula in order to open the Dardanelles to the allied navies. The objective was to capture Constantinople (now Istanbul in Turkey), the capital of the Ottoman Empire, and an ally of Germany.

Now we shall stand for the Ode

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. We will remember them.
[You say ( we will remember them)]

Please remain standing for the last post-

[You may sit down]

In Flanders fields by John McCrae 1915

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved, and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe To you from failing hands we throw The torch, be yours to hold it high If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.

[Please stand up for the national anthem]
