Italian Way of Life (Short Story) (On Hold)

Chapter 1

"Oh mamma, you look so much worse then before." Vincenzo said as he walked to his mother bed. Arabella opened her eyes as soon as she heard her son speak, she missed him so much. "Nurse can you give me and mama some time alone" Vincenzo said as he turned towards the little blonde nurse that was looking over his mothers chart. " Yes Mr. Russo but please call me when your done, your mother needs to take her medicine soon."

Vincenzo smiled at the nurse before turning back towards his mother. He was about to say something when Arabella cut him off. " What happened to coming to hi me last week" she said very annoyed as she looked at her tired looking son. " I'm sorry mama i had problems that needed to be taking care of" he told her as he took her hand in his. " Are those problems more important than you own mother" she said as she tried to hold the tears back, so her son wouldn't see her like that.

Vincenzo knew his mother wanted to cry but he brushed it off. " No mama they are not, but you need to understand i am a business man and i had to take care of things." Arabella pulled her hand away from her son. She was so mad that her husband got her little Cenzo into the family business. "Cenzo ever since your father introduced you into this lifestyle it feels like i have no son."

It was alot harder now for her to hold back the tears that were ready to spill down her face. She looked away so she can pull herself together.

Then she turn back towards her son and startes to speak again. " I'm really sick and who knows when ill pass. All i want is some time with you before that happens." Vincenzo looked his mother in her eyes and took a deep long breath. He knew his mother was right about how much time she had left. He didnt want to hear that coming out of her mouth like venom. " Mama ill come see you more i promise." He said as he smiled at his beautiful mother.

Before Arabella could say anything there was a knock at the door. She took a deep breath knowing that it was for her son. " Boss we have a problem and we need to know what you want us to do about it". Vincenzo took a long look at his mother before getting up and giving his mother a kiss on her forehead. " I'm sorry mama i have business to attend to. I love you and will see you next week." Arabella looked and her son and was very disappointed in him, but she knew he had to go. As Vincenzo walked towards the door and was ready to walk out he stopped in mid turn of the door knob to hear his mother say " I love you to Cenzo."
