I looked around and everyone was clapping gesturing for me to move to the stage like they knew what was happening but I was confused as hell. I turned to Chase and he just tightened his grip on my hand as he glared at the guy on the stage and the guy repeated chase's actions before looking at me from the stage with that perfectly trimmed black hair and forest green eyes. Wait a minute, cafe owner guy?
I tried to move back as slowly as possible but his voice through the microphone stopped me.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you darling" be said as he pointed upwards with his finger which was now free of the glass he was holding. I looked up and saw people dresses in all black with only their eyes visible. They all had their guns trained on me. What a deja vu. The crowd was utterly silent as they watched what was happening with keen interest.
"What are we going to do now?" I whispered to Chase who was still beside me.
" I don't know babe" he said looking down at me. Only then did I notice the height difference.
People began to murmur as we had the ultimate stare off.
I moved forward and Chase muttered a ' what are you doing?' but I didn't answer. His hands were still on mine as I moved further away from him, then a shot rung loudly in the air. Immediately, he pulled me back and covered me as we bent down then as usual, everywhere became a ruckus as people ran helter skelter while we used the opportunity to move to the exit while keeping our heads low. Many shots fired one after the other as we quickened out pace.
Everywhere seemed to calm down a bit as we reached the door, or maybe it was just in my head. There were a lot of people between us and cafe guy right and yet, he was still staring at me, I know I'm such a beauty but he's making the stare so obvious. I didn't notice the person behind him until I saw the shift in the shadows but I was a second too late in comprehending the situation and acting as a shot had already been fired in my direction but Chase comes in front of me as the bullet comes in contact with his skin.
Oh fuck
He fell backwards to me and I dragged him and backed out of the hall. He was bleeding badly but he was still conscious.
" You know, for a second there, I thought you'd leave me and run." He said laughing a little as we walked with him leaning on me to my car, the snow falling lightly on us from the dark sky.
"Don't flatter yourself, I'm only saving you now so that I can kill you buy myself later" I said reaching my car.
" Fair enough" he mumbled.
Putting him in the passenger's seat, I bring out a first aid box and give him a hand full of bandage and cotton wool to press down on his side where the bullet had hit him then I ran to the other side, getting into the car, I drove off .
I step on my break quickly when I notice a car in front of me, not just a car, a fleet of them and plenty Chadow men. The cars formed a barricade, keeping me from passing.
My grip on the steering tightened as I considered driving through them, because my car won't be damaged if I did so.
As I gauged the consequences in my head, another black car came to a halt beside me, making me wonder who was behind the wheel.
The tinted glass went down as those green eyes stared at me and my breath hitched in my throat as I cursed loudly in my head. He turned back to his driver saying something to him, then the driver flashed the headlights twice and the cars cleared.
I look at him in surprise and he smiles as I slowly move forward till I was out of the gate, I match the throttle as I speed off in search of a hospital. Many questions popped up in my head as I drove.
' what is he up to?' , ' why did he let me go?' , ' who is he?'
The snow fell lightly but with signs of increasing as I drove around, most of the local hospitals were closed and the ones that were likely to be open were far from this area. I looked at Chase beside me, his head resting on the headrest of the seat, his eyes closed as he breathed heavily, he was in serious pain.
Fuck hospital, we're going to my house.
I unbuttoned his shirt and placed a clean cloth on the injury to try to control the bleeding first.
" You know, if I wasn't bleeding, I'd think you have other motives for removing my shirt." He remarked and I pressed the side of his stomach harder making him groan in pain and keep quiet.
"Keep your hand here" I instructed as I moved to put on a pair of clinical gloves. "Okay now, this is gonna hurt," I say as I put the forceps into the bullet hole, I don't have a lot of surgical materials so this should work for now.
As I moved deeper in search of the bullet, his shouting intensifies "ugh, stop being a cry baby" I roll my eyes at him while I push it in a little further as they come in contact with a metal substance. I pulled it out and examined it, it also had the Chadows' insignia. It landed with a clink sound on the metal plate beside me.
" You're lucky, the bullet didn't affect any of your organs" I say as I begin to stich it "and you're also lucky that I took a two year intense course in surgery." I look up from what I was doing to look at him. He was just staring at me, sure he was in pain, but he seemed to have looked it away somewhere.
"Sorry I'm low on anesthesia" I say finishing the stitch and he replied with a slight nod. I cover the stitch with gauze and tie a bandage around his abdomen. I fixed a drip for him beside his bed making sure to inject pain reliever into it. I helped him lie in a comfortable position before I injected the drip into the back of his palm. I removed his shoes and covered him with the blanket before arranging the room and cleaning up all the blood stains.
I actually felt guilty that he was in a lot of pain because if he hadn't gotten in the way, I would have been shot again in the space of six months.
I went to the kitchen to prepare something for him to eat but not before removing my clothes.
I had to change in my bathroom because I don't trust being naked in front of a guy even if that guy is seriously injured and half asleep.I wore shorts and a top, coming out from the bathroom, I move to my vanity and untie my hair removing all the hair pins from it. I raked my hands through my hair as I picked up my phone and went to the kitchen.
After like an hour of spices and ingredients, I checked up on him. He was deep in sleep.
When the meal was ready, I helped him sit up on the bed as I kept a tray of pasta and brown soup beside him.
"Eat up," I said " you know we have a lot to discuss" he nods as he digs in.
