The world around them was silent, as the sun set behind the hills. They were alone...

The bodies of their comrades lay on the dirt, along with the many titans they slain. The war for humanity was over. And a new era had just begun...

Thea sat by her friend, grasping her hand as blood seeped through the other.

They sat in silence, thinking about their lives, and what they fought for... The sacrifices that were made... The other girl grunted

“Alison?” She looked at the brunette, a pair of eyes looked back up at her, tears streaming down her cheek, Though Alison said nothing. She just stared at her with a hopeless look in her eyes, Thea looked down at the other’s shirt, covered in blood which she had only just noticed.

“I don’t want to die...”

Alison confessed, gripping her shirt. She choked back a sob
“I really don’t want to...I know we’re meant to devote our hearts to humanity, but still...” She muttered weakly...

Thea squeezed her hand gently, Tears running down her face now.

“I know...” She spoke softly, the gash in her side making it harder to breathe and her the bark of the tree was poking her in the back.

She wheezed slightly... “No one want to truly die...” she muttered, while the other quietly sobbed in her arms.

Thea stared at her knees, was this really it? Were they really going to die here? She sighed shakily; Tears streamed down her face, thinking about her brother, she could only imagine her family’s faces when they see their daughter return home in a box... The thoughts made her sick to her stomach.

Alison looked over at Thea... The eyes that were usually full of hope and joy now looked grim. Her squad was dead, so was everyone else. She had given up, accepted the fact in the next hour or less, she would be dead. She would no longer matter, just another death on the field... She curled her knees to her chest and hugged them. Fingers still entwined with Thea’s, that was the only bright side to this situation, she would be with her. She spat out more blood,

“It’s funny...” Thea spoke... “How they expect us soldiers to bend over backwards to defend the walls, but they give nothing back...”

“But hey, at least we weren’t mauled by titans” She chuckled weakly... She had a feeling it was going to end soon...

“Yeah...” Alison looked up, “Remember Carter? How when he was drunk, he kissed Tristan?” She smiled faintly. All their friends were dead. And they’d join them very soon... The other laughed faintly... If these were truly their last moments together. She wanted them to at least die happy, though she doubted that would happen...

The sun had set fully, bringing darkness up on them. the only sounds she heard where the quiet wheezing of her own breaths. Thea looked over at Alison, she hadn’t moved much. The brunette looked back at her and smiled weakly. They both knew death was around the corner.

She rested her head on Thea’s shoulder, the world was spinning, she started to black out and she felt the beating in her chest slow nearly to a stop... This was it... She felt her shoulders hunch as her breath slowed further, she heard Thea talking to her, but was too weak to answer her... she tried moving, unsure if her body would even obey her at this point. A voice in the back of her head told her to give up, that it was pointless to keep trying, she was going to be dead in the next few seconds. That voice ended up being right.

Thea looked at her friend, she looked into her lifeless eyes. She knew what had happened, though she didn’t want to accept it, didn’t want to let go of the memories she had grew fond of over the years... A tear ran down her face as she thought of when they first met, she closed her eyes and tried to remember the good parts of their life, and not the death and carnage that God had brought up on them, she hugged her friend's body tightly, the blood loss making her feel dizzy.  Thea leaned against the tree and looked at Alison.

“I’m sorry...” She breathed, for a second hoping the girl would answer, though the corpse didn’t...

“I'm so sorry Alison” She sobbed quietly.
“I never got to tell you how I felt, even though I doubt you would’ve felt the same...” She muttered, Tears running down her face...
She hugged the corpse closer, trying to cry quietly, but it was nearly impossible, dread, anger and despair made her heart feel heavy.

“I-… I loved you, Alison...”

She felt tired, she relaxed the grip on the cloth stemming the flow of blood from the wound, she accepted what was to come. It was a matter of minutes before she would join Alison and their friends... She rested her head on top of her friend’s. Her eyelids batted shut.

“Thank you, for everything...”
