Jack saluted at the casket, a picture of his brother, Lane. sitting on the casket, Jack stopped saluting as he sat down next to his crew. The pastor came up and looked around at everyone.
"Lane David Norman, a Lieutenant of the Marines, brother of Major Jack Douglas Norman. Husband of Bonnie Norman, and father to both of his children Dom Norman, and Leslie Norman. Died this morning after a brutal stab wound to the chest in action, he died at the young age of 27."
Jack looked over to see Bonnie crying, he sighed a bit trying to hold in his tears. The pastor continued talking.
"Lane was born in Pensacola, Florida. Joining the Marines at the age of 19. Finding the love of his life when he turned 22, his wife giving birth to his kids while he was deployed. We lost a hero to many people. There's someone who would like to say a few things... Robert Norman."
Jack grew frustration after hearing his fathers name, the same father who never even let on like he loved him and his brother, and was always in the Military.
"Hello everyone, sad day for everyone. But, I am Robert Norman, the father to Lane and Jack Norman. I served as a E-7 Master Sergeant. I am very saddened to hear that my beloved son, Lane died this morning in the hospital. The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall."
'The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall,' was a quote that Jack's dad always said, he even said it to a wounded soldier one time. He heard it in a book from Nelson Mandela.
25 Minutes Later
Jack stood up after being seated, 10 minutes after his father spoke. Him, Dante, Bonnie, Lane's kids, and Jack's father was the only one's left in the house. Jack made his way over to Bonnie, having a partial smile.
"Hey Bonnie, you know people ask how you're doing, but I already know how you're doing."
Bonnie smiled faintly, "Yeah," Bonnie rubbed his arm. "How're you doing, Jack?" Bonnie asked, lifting her arm down from his arm, looking up at Jack.
Jack was fairly tall standing at six foot one. "I'll get through it, I was the one who usually took care of Lane. It doesn't even feel real, you know?" Bonnie nodded over at him. "If you ever want to come over with the kids, I'm staying at Dante's."
"Oh, uh yeah... I'll come to the house, we haven't talked in a year or two, good to catch up."
Jack nodded, and soon Dante walked over with a pamphlet in his hands. He stuffed the pamphlet into his suit pocket, putting his hand on Jack's shoulder. "Yeah, come over Bonnie, it'd be great to have you, but Jack. We got to go." Dante started walking, as Jack nodded over at Bonnie and started walking along with Dante.
Dante and Jack heard a faint voice from behind them as they both turned. "You ain't even going to say hey, or goodbye to your old man?" Jack sighed, and gripped his dad's body in a firm hug. "You know, you could've been a better father to Lane."
"I tried my best to be home Jack, you and Lane both knew that." Jack let go as he backed up, sighing. "Yeah, you just had to be a Military dad." Jack's dad raised an eyebrow. "Jack, look at you. You're a damn Major in the Marines, and you're calling me a Military dad?"
Jack's face turned a bit red. "I don't have kids, and last time I knew, you couldn't even make it home for mom's funeral, I wouldn't have even been surprised if you missed this one as well."
Dante and Jack both walked out of the house and got into Dante's car, slowly driving off to the USMC base.
