"Cap'n, I just don't think this is a good idea!"

Of course, Alex ignored Michael. Why would he listen to him, or anybody aboard the ship? His ship he called it. Not our ship, it was never we. It was always himself before others. That's because he was raised to be stupid and selfish. And Michael couldn't ever help him, he realized, because his Captain, Alex Eggleston, was far too stubborn. Can't teach a dog new tricks. Especially since this was the 1600s, and people's minds weren't very open, probably.

You see, Michael Kucinski was a young pirate, practically raised on ships his entire life, learning nearly everything about them and wanting every single thing to do with them. He learned how to swab the deck, batten down the hatches, idk whatever they do on ships, he knew how to do it! He was obsessed with it, it's all he ever wanted to do with his time, considering it was maybe the only thing he was good at. Other times he was often dumb and clumsy and pathetic, but when he was behind the ship's wheel... hoooowee he was the most confident ever!

However, he had absolutely nothing to do with the wheel. In fact, he barely had anything to do with anything ever at all. No, Alex was too much of a control freak. Sorry– Captain Alex. Instead, Michael was no more than just a mere shiphand, lost at sea with his wretched sea captain. No more than a sidekick, a dog almost, to heed to Captain Alex's every beck and call. Just a little sidekick. Because despite him being far more qualified than Alex would ever be, he was never made Captain. And Michael was growing exhausted of it.

Especially when, early that morning, Michael had woken up to a ginormous bag of wet cement being dropped on him in his sleep, and being unable to complain, he just dealt with it, because he was just a bit too pathetic to actually stand up to Captain Alex (at least for now), so without saying a word, Michael was quick to get up. That's when the Captain explained their next endeavor.

"Kidnapping the Princess of Windland?" Michael was incredulous. "Sir, that's just...,, idk that probably really isn't allowed I think!"

They'd only ever gone after treasure, material things, or even food. They'd never stolen a whole human being before! Let alone a piece of royalty.

"Young Michael," Captain Alex began, being only just a couple years older than Michael, but who cared, he was still pretty ancient, "it's time you learn what a real pirate does. I've had my eye on her for a long time, and I think I should be able to pay her a visit! First, we'll ask if she wants to come with us, and then if she doesn't, we'll just take her!"

"You've been watching the princess?"

Before Michael could question his terribly creepy Captain anymore, another shiphand, Vella Wilde, had called from the top deck.

"If you have anywhere to go, now's the time to set sail!" The weather was nice or something, there was a reason they should go now I'm just too lazy to figure out what it's like to sail.

"Excellent! Young Michael, you get these quarters ready for the princess." Captain pointed to the jail cells that were beside them. They'd never used them before, and Michael was always curious as to why they even had them in the first place.

"Cap'n, I just don't think this is a good idea!" Michael restated the first line so I can establish we're done telling the backstory. Alex turned on his heel to take one last look at Michael, his apprentice, his shadow, his friend.

"It is, because I say so. She's beautiful, Young Michael! Just look at her!"

Michael was handed a photo that looked like it was taken from way too far, and looked to capture the princess in her bedroom or something. Michael grimaced, realizing that Captain must have taken this picture without her consent. That's fucking weird, but Michael didn't dare say anything about that, for the Captain would not care, and would maybe throw him overboard.

Michael held onto the picture, squinting at it, being able to make out a very tall figure in an orange dress with shoulder length golden beautiful locks. The picture was taken from behind, so he couldn't see her face, but yeah, she did look nice.

"Oh, cool Cap'n! But I mean, like how did you get this photo? Cameras don't even exist yet."

Captain Alex snatched the photo back. "She'll be mine, whether you think it's a good idea or not. She'll come aboard this ship and live happily ever after with me! Princess Rory Mancer!"

Michael smiled at the name. He kinda liked it.

Without any further conversation, Captain Alex brought himself back up to the deck, leaving Michael alone with the three jail cells that he had to clean up before they arrived at Windland.
