Atsuko Kagari! Please refrain from sleeping and drooling in my class!"
Akko awoke with a quiet squeak, rubbing her eyes in a panicked state. The girl heard an amused Amanda snicker next to her.
Dammit, she had fallen asleep in Professor Finnelan's class again.
The brunette never really meant to fall asleep in any of her subjects, even in the most excruciatingly boring ones with Professor Badcock or confusing ones that she had with Professor Pisces. But with the newfound excitement and determination found from the missile crisis, lack of sleep had gotten to the girl slowly. Akko had taken it upon herself to at least pay attention for at least more than a solid five minutes in each class, and it reminded her that she really was not cut out for constant information being thrown at her like a wave.
Plus, the constant overtraining in an attempt to catch up with other students was also a factor. It had been merely only a few weeks since the world had been seemingly saved because of brave Luna Nova witches, but that alone was not enough for Akko, she was set on bettering herself tenfold. Well... mostly, in some areas. Maybe not in the paying attention category.
"Sorry Professor." She heard herself mumble, sending one of her elbows flying into the side of a now smirking Amanda. The orange and red haired girl groaned quietly in response and pinched Akko's thigh underneath the table, causing her to scrunch her nose and hold back a loud 'ouch'.
After a few minutes of silent banter and harassing of Amanda that went back and forth between them, Akko forced her head to look at the board in front of her.
'Advanced Magical Linguistics' was written shakily on the chalkboard, the white curves of the capitals fancy in comparison to the rest of the letters. A small plain clock above Professor Finnelan suggested there was a rough ten minutes left of the lecture, meaning that Akko had managed to sleep for an entire half an hour- again.
She looked down at her notebook in discomfort. The young girl had only written a page.
The classroom they were in was quite large compared to some of the other spaces at Luna Nova. Probably because the subject they were attending, 'Magical Linguistics', was one required to be taken by all students, meaning more room was needed. The dark wooden flooring complimented the old forest green wallpaper quite well. However, the faint smell and taste of dust particles was not appreciated.
Akko and Amanda were stuck in the front row, on the right side of the room. Well, it wasn't like it was their choice to be there, as Finnelan had abruptly moved them there within the first few days of being at Luna Nova to 'lessen distractions' caused by the two rambunctious teenage girls. Akko thought it was ridiculous, considering that no matter where she was placed in class, she would always have the same awful attention span.
"Ugh, hey... Amanda?" Akko began in a hushed whisper, absentmindedly flicking her pencil between her fingers. "Do you have any notes I can copy? I have no idea what Professor Finnelan is going on about!"
Amanda snorted quietly, looking their teacher in the face for a few long seconds and nodding her head, as if she was pretending to listen intently. "You think I pay that much attention, Kagari? I've barely written more than you have." That was true, the fiery haired girl had about a page and a half of scribbles, followed by a bunch of random sketches. The red eyed witch pouted in frustration, turning her attention back to the front before she would get in trouble for disrupting the class again. "Fine. I'll suffer then." She found herself grumbling.
The Japanese girl then felt a sudden presence on her, like there was a warm laser being pointed onto her skin. A chill ran down her pale spine, causing her to self-consciously run her hand through her small ponytail stub.
