No one dared to speak as they walked

No one dared to speak as they walked. The tension in the air was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Nightmare took a small glance over at Stephan to see how he was holding up, but his expression gave nothing away. His face was void of any emotion as he silently trailed behind Yael. He was tired but refused to ask for a break.

He needed to keep moving. Stephan, for the first time in his life, was afraid of his own thoughts. He keep his attention on the soft thumps that came as he walked, counting them by fours as he marched through the woods. One, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one- his counting was cut off by the sound of heavy thuds approaching quickly.

"For fucks sake, can they lay off for at least an hour?" Ace growled in frustration as she began to speed up. Everyone followed her lead and began running through the forest, making sure to stay close to each other so no one got lost.

Stephan huffed as he ran behind Ace. His heartbeat began to ring in his ears as his chest heaved in an attempt to intake enough oxygen. His vision became fuzzy as he forced his body to move quickly to keep up with the woman in front of him. He refused to be dead weight. He was tired of having to always rely on others.  Despite the black dots dancing around the edges of his sight, he pushed on. He couldn't give up now. Stephan was certain that if he fell now, it would cost the life of someone else in the group. After all, someone has to die in order for someone else to live. It should have been Stephan that died, but Silver was grabbed by the reaper in his place.

Nightmare watched as Stephan ran in front of her. She watched him stumble and catch himself every few seconds. It was clear to see he was close to passing out. His body and mind were exhausted.  She grumbled something under her breath as she caught up with him and glanced over. "Do you need some help? You look like you are about to collapse." She asked, but Stephan just shook his head. "No, I need to make it through this by myself. If I rely on someone else, it could get them killed." Nightmare raised a brow at his response. She knew Stephan was blaming himself for Silver's death, but she wasn't expecting this kind of reaction. Nightmare sighed and decided not to push the topic further and fell back into line behind him in case he fell.

The group had managed to escape those who were chasing them and set up a temporary camp for the night. UnKnown went around giving everyone a little bit of the food they had packed as they sat around the fire.

"What are we planning to do next?" UnKnown asked as she took a seat next to Nightmare.

"We continue traveling south until we reach the next town, from there we go find The Mamba. He can help us with our next step." Ace answered as she took a bite of the apple she was given.

"You mean we are going to look for Nyoka? Isn't he almost impossible to find?" Yael questioned.

"He's only hard to find if he doesn't want to see you." Nightmare added. "But I know once he finds out that Ace is in town, he will show up right away. She was the one who saved his life, after all."
