"Soda, check, chips, check, dip, check..." The tall brunette ran his fingers through his short hair and adjusted his glasses as he mentally crosses things off his list. He nervously chewed on his sweater strings as he paced back and forth through the room. He pulled out his phone and made sure that he had sent the text to all of his friends. To: Akako, Miki, Sora, Shou Mai, Ayako.
"Hey guys, my parents are out for the weekend. Do you want to come hang out at my place?"
It wasn't the first time that they had hung out, and it certainty wouldn't be the last. But he always got nervous when he was hosting a get together for some reason. He'd just finished placing the horror movies on the counter when the doorbell rang. He stood up and opened the door, and he found himself looking into the nose of Akako.
"Hey Naoko, are you gonna stare at my nose or are you going to let me in?"
"Oh yeah, sorry. Come on in. Don't bother taking your shoes off, the floor is dirty as hell anyway." He sheepishly replied. Make yourself at home, there's some chips and dip on the table over there." Akako grinned just as the doorbell rang again. Naoko ran over and invited the pair of people in. Akako immediately diverted his attention to one of the girls that came in.
"Oh hey Miki hey Ayako." Naoko greeted as Akako gave Miki and affectionate kick the the shin, which she returned. Ayako and Naoko smiled at the couple and the doorbell rang again. Naoko, opened the door and the last people entered.
"Hey everybody." The tallest of the girls greeted. As the three entered the house.
"Hey Sora, Mai, Shou." Naoko smiled, Shou nodded his head in acknowledgement.
"Well now that everyone is here, we can get started." Naoko said as he held out two horror movie disks.
.....................................................................................................................................
The movie ended, and the supply of soda was getting dangerously low. Miki let out a yawn.'
"Well It's getting kind of late, I think i'm going to head home."
"I'll walk you home" Akako stated, a goofy smile clear on his face.
"Wait guys, before we head home I want to try this thing I found on the internet." Naoko interjected.
"The internet? Not everything you find on the internet is cool." Shou argued.
"Shut up Shou, this will be great. So anyway, I found this blog called Naho's nods to the netherworld, and on it was this charm called Sachiko Ever After. It's supposed to make us friends forever or something."
"That's so cheesy." Mai stated.
"God Mai, just because you and Shou are twins doesn't mean that you have to agree on everything." Naoko whined as he pulled a small paper doll out of his pocket. "This is the charm. All we have to do is hold it and say Sachiko we beg of you for however many people there are. In this case we all have to say it seven times. Then we rip it so everyone gets a piece. If we keep it with us, it's supposed to make us friends forever!"
"Sounds simple enough!" Sora ginned as she gripped the doll. One by one everyone crowded around and found a place to hold the charm.
"Okay, so everyone say Sachiko we beg of you seven times. No more, no less."
"What happens if we mess up?" asked Akako.
"No idea, all the blog said was that bad things will happen. All the reason that we don't mess up! So everyone ready? Go!"
........ ........... ......... ........
"Everyone say it seven times?"
There were nods all around.
"Okay, now rip it. Don't let go, dig your nails into it if you need to."
Riiip
The charm ripped into several pieces, one for everyone.
"So keep this piece with you. In your purse, wallet or ID. Just don't lose it!" Naoko smiled.
"Well now that we're done, I think I'll head home." Ayako stated. There were no objections. Just then the room began to shake, and the smiles faded from everyone's faces.
"Whats that?" Miki choked out. The ground lurched beneath everyone's feet causing them to be thrown off balance.
"An earthquake!" Ayako screamed.
"Quick! Everyone get under something solid!" Shou yelled above the noise.
The earthquake grew in intensity, knocking books off shelves and rattling light fixtures, the window overlooking the street shattered in it's pane. spraying glass across the room. The building felt as if it were going to rip apart. Then it was over.
"Holy crap." Akako gasped. "Is everyone okay?"
There were nods, and small murmurs of "yeah." Then the floor under the seven gave out. But instead of falling to the floor below, they were falling into a black empty void. Akako reached for Miki, Shou reached for Mai and Sora and Naoko reached for Ayako. Their screams went unheard as they all fell into the void below.
