A/N: In this story I've made Dan and Phil the same age, cause this is fiction, and I have the freedom to do so.

.*Dan's POV*
"Are you sure you want to wear that to school, Dan?" My mother asks me hesitantly.
"Of course, Mum. Why would you ask such a question? I always dress like this. What else would you expect me to wear?" I reply, incredulous. I hadn't changed anything about my clothes.
"I don't know...something a little more inviting, don't you think? You want to be able to make friends on your first day in a new school, after all, not scare them off."
"Oh, don't worry, mum. I'll be fine."***
As I walk through the gates of my new school, I realise why my mum, who never commented on my clothes, had been trying to get me to change them.
It's a fucking private school.I stare up at the gigantic, cream-coloured building looming in front of me. Everyone walking past me is extremely well dressed, even though they're wearing casuals. They probably spend more on styling themselves than on their education.
As I stood there, a little shocked, I got a lot of weird, slightly disgusted stares. I was dressed in my usual skinny jeans, plain black T-shirt and sneakers, after all. Plus I have a fringe, which makes most people automatically assume I'm emo. I am not.
I take a deep breath, get myself together and walk in through the front doors. I head towards the reception desk, as I had been told to do in the letter I had got from the school.
"Hello, there! You must be Daniel Howell! Lovely to finally meet you!" The receptionist greeted me cheerfully, beaming at me. I little too cheerful though.
"Uh, yeah, hi." Not particularly good at first impressions. But the receptionist didn't even notice, and handed me a folder, rushing me to the principal's office.
As I follow the receptionist into the office, the principal stands up from his seat and greets me.
"Hello, Daniel. I'm Mr. Hawthorne, the school principal. It's lovely to have you here."
"It's an honour to be here, sir."
He offers me a seat and I sit down, as the receptionist exits the room.
"In the folder you will find your timetable and information about the school to help you out. It also contains a cafeteria card and your school ID."
He goes on to explain to me the school rules and the school system. Finally, he ends, and both of us get up.
"Ms. Slater will help you out, now. You will be getting a tour of the school right now", he says to me.
I stare at him blankly for a second.
"Ms. Slater, the receptionist", he clarifies.
"Oh, okay. Thank you", I say as I leave the office, heading back to the reception.
I feel a little scared here. Everyone here seems so posh, and kind of uptight, to be honest. And I'm not posh at all. I don't fit in, here. But I have to dil with it.
As I return to the reception, I find that Ms. Slater is really engrossed in some work.
"*ahem*", I uncomfortably cough to get her attention.
"Oh yes, Daniel! I'm so sorry, I didn't see you there. Pardon me", she says, looking up from her computer, slightly flustered. "We must immediately get to work."
I nod to indicate that I'm listening.
"We have a community service club where at Seagate. Whenever we get a new student, apart from freshmen, a student from the club helps out and guides the new student for the first week. Generally we try to get someone with as close a timetable as yours as possible. That's who we're just waiting for, now. He should be here any minute."
"Oh, wow. That's amazing", I comment, for once absolutely serious, without even a hint of sarcasm. I genuinely really like this idea. I'm not much of a people person, but this is better than being completely, terrifyingly alone during your first week at at a new school.
Ms. Slater and I wait for about ten minutes, which seem to last for hours with the awkward silence between us. The suddenly, the door bursts open, and a boy runs in, breathing heavily, his elbow bandaged up.
"Ohmygod, I'm so sorry Ms. Slater, I got really late, I tripped and fell and cut my elbow on the pavement and then I had to rush to school and then I had to first go to the nurse's office and get help and that's why I got late, I'm so sorry", he breathes out rapidly.
"Yes, yes, it's alright, it's just good that you're okay", Ms. Slater pats him on the back, trying to calm him, and gets him a glass of water from the dispenser in the corner.
Meanwhile, I just stand in the middle of the room, staring at them. It just came as such a shock to me.
After the boy has calmed down, his blue eyes finally lie on me. The black haired boy stares at me for a while. And I stare back in shock. He doesn't look like any of those other snooty kids at all. He's like me. Well, at least he looks kinda like he would be like me. Except he isn't dressed in all black. But he, too, has a fringe like mine, and is dressed in really cool, yet general, casual clothes. Like me. I definitely did not expect this.
And from the look of it, he didn't either.
He suddenly breaks into a huge grin, that lights up his entire face.
"Hi, Daniel, I'm Phil. Short for Philip. Last name Lester."
