"Mine and Lisa's wedding is in a few weeks," My dad told me as I was getting ready for dinner. "She wants you as one of her bridesmaids, which means you'll have to try and take some time off of work to come."

I narrowed my eyes. How was I meant to take a week off of work when I was a teacher?

But when I thought about it, I realized we had our fall break coming up. Which, luckily, meant I wouldn't have to request any time off because I had a week off anyway.

Even luckier, it was the week of the wedding.

"I'll see what I can do," I shrugged.

"You should have your boyfriend tag along," My dad grinned. "I hear the schools around here are on break that week."

I raised an eyebrow. "How did you hear that?"

"I looked it up," He stated. "I want Lisa's thoughts on the lad, since you claim you've been dating him for months. It's your longest relationship."

I sighed. Of course he wanted Lisa to meet him. He was always like that.

I put on a necklace before turning to him. "Alright, I'm off to dinner. Should I pick up anything for you on my way home?"

"I'll be fine," He said. "Have fun, but not too much fun."

I rolled my eyes. "Bye."

With that, I left the flat and drove to the restaurant Ethan had reservations for, dreading every minute of our dinner. The worst part was, I had to tell Ethan what my dad said about inviting him to the wedding.

I knew he wasn't going to take it well.

I walked into the restaurant, scanning the area until I caught Ethan's eye. He waved me over, a fake smile on his face as he saw me, so I let out a shaky breath before adjusting my bag on my shoulder.

For an added effect, I kissed Ethan's cheek before sitting down next to him. "Hey babe. Hi Ruth."

"Hello Rebecca," She smiled kindly before taking a sip of her wine. The restaurant was much fancier than I expected from Ethan, but I kept that thought to myself as a waiter came over to our table to take my drink order.

I just ordered a cocktail and leaned back on the booth, where Ethan had his arm draped over the back. I glanced at the tattoos now that they were closer, and resisted the urge to trace them with my fingers. We weren't that close.

"How long did you say you two have been together again?" Ruth questioned.

"A few months," Ethan shrugged. "We met before she started teaching at the school. At the park."

Nice. Short and simple.

But he continued, looking down at me with a smile. "I thought she was an airhead when I first saw her. I mean, who brings paint and canvas to the park?"

I resisted the urge to frown, and instead picked up my glass and took a long drink. I'd need it.

"How sweet," Ruth giggled and turned to me. "I guess you changed his mind, dear, didn't you?"

I shrugged. "Debatable. He's hard-headed, this one."

Ruth grinned. "Believe me, I know."

Ethan cleared his throat and tensed, removing his arm from behind my head and opening his menu, staring down at it as if it would save him from the embarrassment that was sure to come.

"The salmon looks good, doesn't it?" He asked, attempting to change the subject. "I think we should split the salmon, Princess. Unless you'd like something else?"
