THE SCENERY they passed as they made their way to Aubrey Hall, the ancestral estate of the Bridgerton family, was beautiful.

Guinevere was biased toward her own family's lands, but she had no problem admitting this was just as breathtaking.

It was a breath of fresh air to be away from London during the season. Such events weren't common during the Season, but when they happened, it was always the talk of the ton, and whoever wasn't invited grumbled about it in half-empty ballrooms of the city.

It also gave reprieve from the news of Whistledown, even if that only meant when the party eventually returned to society, the rumors and scandals were made known to the ton.

This particular event, held by Viscount Bridgerton — but everyone knew the true person behind this was his mother — was surrounded by speculations of how many engagements would be made because of it, and if Lady Violet Bridgetown had her way, at least one of those would be having the name Bridgerton involved.

Guinevere wasn't only assuming that because of the gossip, but more so because of the invite list, full of eligible young ladies but rather lacking in eligible young men, and most important of all, rare the bachelor that was more eligible than any of the three adult Bridgerton sons. It was a strategic move that Guinevere had to applaud, even if she would've rather have either Alleyne or Rannulf attend.

Alas, the invite was addressed to the Marquess and Marchioness of Hallmere, with an extension to Guinevere, no doubt a consequence of her meeting the Viscountess at the musicale she'd held, and being an eligible young lady in her own right.

It was a logical addition, given the purpose of this particular country house gathering, and although Guinevere did not think herself suited for being Viscountess Bridgerton — mostly on the account that Lord Bridgerton seemed rather enamored with Kate, even if the man himself did not realize it yet. Colin was also not a prospect, mostly from the interaction Guinevere had with him, giving her the impression of someone that made friends easily but seemed at least a decade away from any commitment.
