Welcome gents to Chapter the First

Mikhail walked down the cracked street as the wind howled around him.

The concealed PSS silenced pistol bumped against his back.

He absent-mindedly wiped the blood from his mask, clutching the machete harder.

Ahead, a pair of soldiers stood, oblivious to him.

Mikhail, activating his jet boots, sped towards the soldiers.

By the time they noticed him, it was too late.

One of the soldier's arm below the elbow was completely severed, and the other was clipped in the neck.

As they reeled back, Mikhail slammed his machete into the armless soldier's helmet over and over, cracking into it after the 3rd swing.

The next swing felled the soldier.

"Daniel! Oh fucking god no! He was my boyfriend!" The other soldier screamed, raising his pistol.

Mikhail drew the PSS and shot the soldier in the neck.

"GLRRRRCK!" The soldier gurgle as he fell.

Mikhail chuckled, wiping the blood off of his machete with the first soldier's uniform, smudging to the words "Daniel Hopkins".

Suddenly, he heard voices nearby, so he took cover in a dumpster.

"Geez, what happened to these blokes?" "How am I supposed to know?" "It's a general question, sergeant." Oh, for gods-*sigh* keep moving, Powlinski, and plant that TD."

The footsteps faded away.

Mikhail waited another minute, then hopped out. The bodies had been clearly disturbed.

In addition, a small, blocky shape was placed on the ground. Mikhail kicked it, and it produced a high-pitched beep rapidly.

"EY THE TD'S BEEN MESSED UP IM GETTING A SIGNAL" one of the people screamed from a nearby alley.

Mikhail ran, as a high-caliber bullet decimated the cheap plastic wall next to him.

2 minutes of hyper intense chase later*what I'm lazy*

Mikhail took a breather, having outrun his persuants a while ago.

He removed his mask, letting his shaggy brown hair swish in the wind.

On half of his face was considered to be "extremely handsome" by people around him. The other side was badly scarred.

His brain refused to conjure up images from that night, but the screaming stuck with him.

Suddenly, a large quadrone, about the size of a pumpkin, flew into the alley with a damaged engine and fell to the floor.

Mikhail cut off what seemed to be an antenna, not wanting to be tracked, and, carrying it with him, started the long trek back to base.

1 hour 4 minutes 20 seconds later

"Ey doc, found a new thing for you to look at." Mikhail said as he entered the lab.

Dr Keill, a spindly man, simply rushed  over, mumbling, and took the drone.

"A thank-you would be nice." Mikhail said.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever." The doctor said as he shuffled away.

Suddenly, a bulky man entered the workshop.

"Dad!" Mikhail said and rushed over.

"How's my boy?" Aleksei said as he ruffled Mikhails hair.

Meanwhile

Colton looked at the gory scene.

Private Daniel Hopkins and Officer Kem Tarsens were found to have been attacked in an alley.

Tarsens barely survived, and was now relaying to them what happened.

"A-a masked man just rushed us with a m-m-m-m-machete and he-he killed Daniel, then he shot me. I'm lucky that the extra plating paid off." Tarsens said.

"What did his mask look like?" One of the soldiers asked.

"A gask mask of sorts. It-it looked like a smile was sprinted on it."

"Affirmative. What did he-" The interrogator was interrupted by another soldier shouting "Hey look! It's a black box thingy!"

They rushed over. It was a simple, black square.

Colton poked it with the butt of his rifle.

It started beeping, and everyone backed up. Then Colton could have swore that he heard a muffled laugh.

One of the soldiers exploded in a bloody mess.

Everybody rushed to cover, as another soldier exploded as a deafening cackle sounded.

Colton tackled Tarsens behind a small wall, saving him from a shotgun blast.

Another soldier tried to get behind cover, but a projectile, a long tube with three prongs on the end, impaled him.

He landed with a splat behind the cover as the tube created a tiny explosion of heat, melting the body.

Colton pulled out his heavy pistol.

Peeking over the cover, he saw a figure in a tattered trenchcoat and with a fedora in poor condition standing there amid the carnage.

Colton screamed as he opened fire.

He figure made a small "Htt" sound and pulled way as the bullets seemingly impacted with no effect.

As the figure spun away, Colton saw a pair of piercing, glowing purple eyes behind that fedora.
