All students of Beverly High School were excited to be back after the long , long summer break. The school held an unofficial pride of place among all the other top schools in the country. It had the largest  football field and the best football team. Bright purple and yellow bougainvillea had been carefully planted along the school walls. The school buildings were arranged in small one- and two-storey blocks , with rows of roses plants forming small hedges between each class. Others often said that Beverly's students were 'artificial'.

The first day of term were always the worst. Back to maths and physics, and everyone talking in the latest slang about what they'd been up to and what new music was out. Some students wore their ties in odd knots and had chains on their trousers, showing off watches and shoes. Some popular and rich kids brought the latest Samsung and iPhone which other students envied. They were the same old rich, untrained, goofy, corky set of people: Williams, the self high esteemed rich kid who brags about his dad's wealth all the time, Jordan, tall, good looking and the assistant captain of the soccer team who also has a rich family, Kyle, the son of Beverly high school's investors, Babe, self acclaimed model who also is the only daughter of the founder of LULTECH industries one of the biggest tech industry in the country and finally, Gum-chewing, sassy, bad-mouth, miss popular Layla (who is also known as Queen Bee with her perpetually disdainful expression) who is the daughter of the best lawyer in the country and beyond. Who also happens to be Quan's girlfriend.

Quan was the best in his class tho not a nerdy kind, he won prizes and laurels for the school in science competitions. He was also social and the best footballer in his school team. What's more, all the girls thought he was good looking, talented, smart. If there were anyone who could be described as an all-rounder, it was Quan Lesley Hills.
Some people have all the luck, but Quan was such a friendly, likeable person that people were hardly envious of him. It had always been like that. On the other hand, Quan had been Justin's hero since kindergarten because he was good at do many things, while the only thing Justin knew how to do was to draw. There had never been two friends who were more different.

A thick girl with short curls framing her round, gentle face came over. It was Channel Stone. She lived on the same street as Quan and Justin and she was one of their oldest friends. Justin was happy to see her. She had the sweetest smile.

'Hi Justin!' she said in her beautiful light voice. 'Glad to see you. Look at Q, that was what she calls Quan and only she can call him that.

When did he get back? Asked Channel.

'He came back yesterday'. replied Justin.

'I could hear his voice from a distance, full of fun as usual,' said Channel, laughing.

'By the way, do you remember anyone called Asia? She's a relative of Mrs Willow who lives on Quincy Street, not too far from us'.

Justin wrinkled his forehead.'No, I don't think so.'

'Neither do I, not very well tho. She was at our middle school for a while and she's coming to join us'.

'I think she had to leave her former school, at least that's what her aunt told my mother. Her aunt asked me, us rather to help her settle down and get used to things.

So Justin, how was your summer break?' asked Channel

'Oh boring. But I did get the opportunity to put my drawings for display at the museum. He said sarcastically.

'Wow! that's awesome!!'

'No it wasn't'. I was being sarcastic there Channel'.
Said Justin.

They both laughed as they walked towards the Hallway.

After school, Quan walked behind a block of classrooms. It was empty there and closest to the back wall of school. Several huge Casuarina trees loomed there and, except for the occasional rustling of a lizard against leaves or the soft cooing of a laughing dove, all was quiet. Then Quan put on his earphones and turned on his iPod until loud hip-hop music filled his ears. He was listening to his favorite rap artist 'NBA YOUNGBOY'. It was rare for Quan to be or want to be alone, but he had alot of things in his mind.

Quan had decided nothing was going to bother him again. It was time for school and he was going to keep on being the brightest student, getting a scholarship from Harvard university, while still partying, playing football, and enjoying the admiration of lots of girls.
A sudden movement startled him. It was Justin.

'Yo Quan, what's up with you?' You seems a bit odd today.

'Nah it's nothing', said Quan

'You sure u alright?' asked Justin

'Yeah bruh, am good.

'Aiit man, but we better hurry up we got physics class in about 5mins and you know how Mr Allen gets all cranked up when someone comes late to his class.

'Aiit, let's go. said Quan.

As they were about getting to the Hallway, two people came out. One of them was a middle aged women dressed in an expensive gown which would cost a fortune by the way. She wore dark sunglasses. The other was a girl who was wearing a short jean skirt with a colourful blouse to match. It was a bit difficult to tell what she looked like because she had an odd expression on her face, as if she was going to be sick.

'Who are they?' asked Justin.

Quan said, 'Don't know.'
