Prom?
It's just another occasion in which we express our stupidity and hyperactivity.
A dance here, a couple conversations there, and oh yeah, don't forget about getting drunk at that after party everyone is deciding to go to.While everyone was out having the 'time of their life', i was working.
Now, the job I have, is not any normal job.
I don't work at the local Starbucks, i don't work at Wal-Mart,
I work for the United States of America.
I, am a soldier. While you were in your uniforms made up of tuxedos and dresses,
I was in my military uniform.
The same uniform in which hundreds of thousands of men and women have died in for over a century. While all of you were out having that special dinner,
Having a couple drinks,
And dancing your shoes off,
I was busy doing my best to learn how to defend the country where you are standing. So as you sit there and think to yourself that having the 'prettiest dress' or the 'coolest tux' is sooo important,
Don't forget,
That the privileged life you live,
Was only obtainable through the ultimate sacrifice of someone laying their life down for our nation's safety.
There are no breaks for us who defend our nation. There is no 'sitting on a bench' like those fourth stringers on a football team.
We can't just take our boots off if our feet hurt.
If we hurt, we suck it up,
We deal with it,
Because your safety and your comfort matters more than our own.The country that you have,
The freedom that you have,
The only reason why you have it,
Is because those like me,
Those in military uniform,
Have paid the price for freedom,
In blood.
All gave some,
And some gave all.Y'all probably had a fun time at your proms,
I'm happy for you,
But I do not envy you.
'Cause people,
No.
I did not go to prom,
Because I was busy learning to defend the country that even allows you to have that prom.
Have a nice evening.
