It's the first day of my senior year of high school and to be completely honest I'm not the least bit excited. High school has royally sucked for me. I'm the quiet super nerdy 'emo' kid. People think because I'm someone who keeps to themselves, wears dark clothing occasionally, and hate basically everyone here that I'm emo. Did it ever just occur to them that I'm the best example of the high school experience?

As I stand here and staring at my reflection I wonder what I am to do with my hair.

"Should I wear my glorious natural black locks down so I can hide my face? Or should I wear it up in a neat ponytail to show off the glittering of my grey eyes?" I say to myself. I can't help but laugh at my own words. Those are the words my mom says to me daily. I thought she would have realized by now that I'm not that little girl she once knew who ran around in pigtails. I am now eighteen and well on my way to adult hood. Sort of.

I sigh to myself slightly as I walk over to my bed and look at the three outfits that my best friend Lacey had picked out for me. I made her a promise I would wear at least one outfit of her choosing this year. Lace and I are two completely different personalities, she's all preppy and slutty and I am obviously not. She's the flirty one and I'm the awkward one. She's had tons of boyfriends and I've had about three. Besides our different personalities we get along, actually, very well.

Two out of the three outfit choices were, well, two tight tops and two very short skirts. Both not my style, but the third option with a bit more my style . . . ish. It was a red dress that stopped just above the knee and it wasn't too tight looking either.

As I slide the dress over my head and straighten it down my body it feels as though the dress has conformed to my body. I turn around and look at myself in the mirror posing a little.

"Don't you look hot for your first day of school?"

I whip my head around to see my mom standing in my door way. "Oh my god! Mom what the hell?!"

"Watch your language young lady. You may be eighteen, but that does not give you the right to use that type of language in my house."

"Okay, just because this is your house, that doesn't mean you don't need to knock!" I can feel my face flare with embarrassment.

My mom throw her hands up in defeat. "Alright alright. You're right and I'm sorry." She says laughing at me. "Look, Lacey is outside. That's the whole reason I came up here."

"Okay got it."

"And Jessica?"

I truly hate when she calls me Jessica. "Yes mom?"

"No sneakers with that dress. Take my red heels, you know, the ones I tell you make your legs look great?"

"Thanks mom. And just saying, stop telling me my legs look great whenever I wear heels or something. It makes me feel weird."

"Sure sure, whatever. Have a nice day at school today."

I wish I had my own car so I didn't need to rely on Lacey so much. As we pulled up to the school I immediately wanted to go back home.

"Soooo who is super excited for senior year!" Lacey cheered as we met up with our friend Sophia.

"Hells yeah I am!" Sophia says with her thick British accent.

I would have thought being here in the states for so long it would have faded a bit, but I guess not.

"So, where are you guys going for first period?" I ask ignoring their excitement.

"Well, I have English lit and I think Sophi has pre-cal."

"I guess I'll see you two at lunch then."

"Wait, what's your first P?" Sophia asks

"Bio-engineering for college credit."

"You truly are the nerd of this group." Lacey says. Both she and Sophia laughed.

"Thanks guys." I say under my breath.

I walk the opposite way of Lacey and Sophia and look for room 628. It wasn't too hard to find. When I reached the room I took a seat in the front row and waited as everyone else talked to each other. Just as I'm about to put my head down on my desk our teacher walks in. He definitely doesn't look anything like I expected.

I just stared at him while he walked over to his desk and stood in front of it.

"Hello class. My name is Mr.Fischbach, but I know how hard most of you will find my name so you can just call me Mark." I'm captivated by his deep voice. "I will be your Bio-Eg 112 teacher for the semester. It's nice to meet you all. Now let's start taking roll." His voice was like velvet rubbing against my skin. I know that seems weird but I just can't help it.

Damnit Jess pay attention!

"Jessica Rose?" Mark calls my name finally.

"It's just Jess actually." I say

"Last time I checked I'm the teacher here and I can call you Sassy Sue if I wanted to."

"Well then Mr.Fischbach, that wouldn't be correct either." I couldn't stop the smartass remark from leaving my mouth.

"Well then I shall call you Sassy Sue since you are apparently extremely full of sass," He chuckled a little. "anyway let us get on with today's lesson." He added.

Well this was a great way to start the first day . . .
